Chapter 6
by HYjaCK
What happens next?
Dream: Silence
Sitting outside your cabin, you watched the blizzard. It had been snowing for a few days now without any plans on stopping. While it was quite strange, you shrugged it off.
You had been living on the mountain for a few months now, now getting low on food. Before the blizzard, you had gone out to collect some firewood, only to discover your home completely ransacked when you got back. The day you were going to go into town to find the police was the day the seemingly unending blizzard hit.
"Fucking Winter..." You mumbled to yourself, getting up from your chair and entering your cabin, listening to the complete silence. The only thing that broke the silence was the occasional wind, causing an eerie whistling sound, though these noises were few and far between.
The cabin itself was now near-empty, the only item remaining undamaged was a book on the coffee table. The reason you were here in this cabin was to try to investigate claims of a creature, each encounter described in this leather book.
A few years ago, locals had described it as a strange deer. One that had six eyes dotted around its decaying head. The antlers were huge, but looked more likely actual bone, with blood dripping down from the tips. The creature seemed to defend something out here on the mountain, but you weren't sure of what. Locals stated that it appeared when they approached a river in the nearby forest, but you hadn't explored that area yet, preferring to remain in the originally clear snow.
You sat on the torn to shreds couch and sighed. "There's no way I'm gonna survive on my own for long without more food... fucking blizzard won't help- that's for sure."
Leaning back on the couch, you began to drift off, but as you were about to fall asleep, a loud screech woke you. Jolting upright, you immediately sprinted to the door, swinging it open and looking out into the falling snow. As the screeching ceased, the silhouette of something walked into the woods, leaving a trail of steps that soon were covered in snow.
Throwing your planned method of staying inside, you sprinted into the blizzard, bounding through the snow after the silhouette. You soon found yourself panting as you ran, your heart rate like an automatic rifle firing. Your heart didn't stop you, though. Your sprint was fuelled by pure adrenaline. If this creature was real, you had to find out. You started to reminisce, thinking back to your mother who had told you on her **** bed to ensure that you followed your curiosity. Sure, it wasn't the best of things to say to an impressionable child, but this was it. Your big chance to-
You fell. Your foot had slid off a snow covered rock, launching off of it down the frozen waterfall. The blizzard had concealed everything in front of you, so the last thing you expected was the waterfall. But here you were- falling.
You tried to scream, but you hit the ice first. It didn't shatter, you hit it with a loud thud. Your legs cracked beneath your weight and you could feel bones snap. You were in absolute agony.
"Fu- fuck..." You groaned, tears dripping down your face. You tried to move your legs but gasped in pain. You tried to move your head slowly to look at the source of a strange clopping noise, but you gasped once more. "No..."
Trying to hold yourself up with your arms, you looked up the best you could. The last thing you saw before you passed out was the six eyes.
There was silence.
