Down the wall

Too many men attacking the tower already. You think to yourself as you start moving carefully to the damaged section of wall. You never were much of a climber, but this doesn't look too bad. Unlike the outer walls that were close to 40 feet tall on the inside of the city the drop looked like only 20 - 30 feet. The worst part of the climb is having to turn your back on the city as you climb down. Looking down at the boulevard below you see dozens of people running in the streets.

There is a gang of boys carrying wooden swords and spears that appeared to be engaging in their own private war. These boys of Athenapolis clearly had no understanding of the horrors of war, they did not seem like much of a threat but if they all attacked you at once it could get messy. You let them move further down the boulevard.

A loosely organized group of men and women are building a barricade out of wagons, barrels and what looks like bales of rags. That will slow the incoming warriors that would be pouring through the breach, but not change the outcome of the siege. You are not interested in them either as long as they leave you alone.

The final type of activity appears to be thieves and ruffians getting a start on looting their own city, perhaps figuring that their activities will go unnoticed in the upcoming chaos. These men look like just the type that would stab you in the back, but luckily they seem more interested in their own activities than in you.

Slinging your shield and spear onto your back you swing your legs over the wall and start the climb. You try to hurry, stopping only occasionally to look over your shoulder but for the most part you are ignored as you make your way down the wall. It feels good to have the solid footing of the street as you push your shield firmly onto your left arm and take a firm grip of your spear.

Directly across from you there is a large building. The doors are closed and there are bars on all the lower windows. Hanging from the front there is a sign showing a prancing horse encircled by a horseshoe. There are several words written under the sign but you never really learnt any more than the letters in your name so you have no idea what it says.

An alley runs along the right side of the building. To the left of the building is a wall slightly taller than you with nasty looking glass shards set into the top of the wall.

Down the boulevard to the right is the base of the tower, you can see wounded soldiers being carried out and city men heading into the tower. If you attacked the tower from the rear, the resistance inside might crumble. That would allow you to rejoin your division. You would probably earn a promotion and you wouldn't have to enter the city alone.

The barricade blocking the broad boulevard to the left is nearly complete with men making final adjustments to the materials to give themselves more cover and better footing. 'One good fire bomb and that whole barricade would turn into a **** trap' you think to yourself.

The gang of teens have been turned back by the barricade and are headed back towards you. Staying here is probably not a good idea.
