Dinner with Dominic

Much as you’d love to have a chance to get some quality conversation time in with Christina and Charmaine, you did promise Dominic that you would talk with him. Besides, it’s always hard to manage a conversation with two hot girls at once - they do get jealous very easily.

“How are things going?” Dominic asks. “You look like you just worked out - were you just at the gym?”

“It was soccer tryouts, for the co-ed team actually,” you say. “It turns out the men’s coach doesn’t take kindly to people missing the first tryouts, so there went my chance to play varsity for the year.”

“You know, you probably dodged a bullet and cut straight to the silver lining,” Dominic says, pausing to frown at himself for mixing metaphors. “Anyways, I’ve only heard good things about the co-ed team. They play well and do well every year, and I hear that the team got quite… close… last year, if you get my drift.”

“I like the way that sounds,” you say, feeling increasingly optimistic about the upcoming year. “You have any tips on other student clubs that share a similar degree of … closeness?"

“I’m not sure it’s my place to be sharing that,” Dominic says, a sly grin appearing on his face. “But they exist, I assure you. You just have to keep an ear out. You never know what you’ll hear through the grapevine, or what moans will sound through the walls. They can be pretty thin for a place named Stonewall.”

“Oh come on, I’m not going to report you for breaking your RA contract or something ridiculous like that if you tell me,” you say. “A pointer couldn’t possibly hurt anyone. Unless you’re saving all that pussy for yourself?”

“Those days are over for me,” Dominic says with a rueful look on his face. “I’ve settled with a girl that I like very much for nearly two years now, thank you very much. But I suppose I could give you a tip for tonight, because I’m feeling generous.”

Dominic pulls out his phone and swipes a few times, while you take a few bites of your food. You catch an elegantly dressed blonde girl who looks faintly familiar glancing your way, but when you try to make eye contact, her gaze has already swept elsewhere, and then she’s out of the dining hall. Who is she?

“Ah, here’s the message,” Dominic says, tilting his screen so that you can see. It’s a series of text messages from Tatiana.

“Who’s Imogen?” you ask, seeing the unfamiliar name pop up a few times through the texts.

“She’s cool,” Dominic says. “She’s got greatness written in her future. Word is that she only applied to Kale law, and the school’s betting pool odds are saying 3:1 that she’s going to get in. She’s still a junior, by the way.”

“Got it,” you say. “Actually, scratch that, I have no idea how I’m supposed to be reacting. This all sounds impressive, but what does it mean?”

“It means that she’s a once in a generation genius,” Dominic says. “You’ll figure out that game soon enough. But all that doesn’t matter for tonight. What matters is that she and Tatiana have got a weird friendship where they always try to one-up each other. Tonight, it’s about who can look hotter for the party. So they’re going to dress up at the sorority house, and they want a guy to judge who looks better. They asked me originally, but I’m thinking that you could go in my place instead, and I get to spend the night with my girl instead. How does that sound?”

“Dope,” you say, giving Dominic a fist-bump. Watching hot girls dress up and model for you? Who knew toxic masculinity could be so fun. “Send me the details, and I’ll make sure that you get the relaxing evening you want.”

“No problemo,” Dominic says. “We guys have to look out for each other, yeah?”

You nod in agreement, and say your farewell to Dominic. You head back to the lounge, where as usual, there are a few small groups of people chatting and studying. You pick a table and crack open a book, ready to get some work done before the fashion show tonight.
