Chapter 2

What comes next? Dinner or something else?
Dinner time.
The pizza arrived a half hour later and Katrina happily paid for it with the cash her parents had left them for the week. She walked back into the kitchen and placed the warm box down on the table. The smell of melted cheese filled the air and Katrina's stomach growled hungrily. She was starting to wonder if she could sneak a slice before going to get Ash when she heard some loud thuds and mild cursing from the living room. Katrina hurried into the room to see Ash trying to move the wheels of his chair with the large casts on his hands. Needless to say, he was not having much luck.
"Ash, what are you doing?" She asked, folding her arms across her chest, just under her breasts.
"Failing miserably. What's it look like?" Ash muttered, giving up and slumping down in the chair.
"You're acting like a child, Ash." Katrina sighed and walked behind him. She grabbed the handles of the wheelchair and started to push him into the dining room. Ash grumbled a "pheh" under his breath.
"I was this close to just getting up and walking in." He said.
"It's a good thing you didn't or I would have knocked you back into it." Katrina responded. "The doctor said..."
"I know what the doctor said." Ash sighed. "Sorry, Kat. I don't mean to take this out on you. It's just frustrating."
"I know, I know." Katrina said as she pushed him up to the table. She rubbed his head affectionatly. "But you have to learn to roll with the punches. Standing stubbornly in the face of change won't do you any good."
"Since when did you become such a fortune cookie?" Ash asked. He looked at the pizza box longingly. "Fine. I'll make an effort. Could you feed me a piece of pizza please?" The words were strained, but he got them out.
"Sure thing." She smiled and got out a slice of pizza and folded it slightly so it stayed sturdy. "Do you need a bib or anything?" She asked with a smile.
"Yeah, could you get me a couple napkins?" Ash asked innocently. Katrina arched an eyebrow, suprised he didn't lash out at her for the joke and obediently got several napkins. "Good. Now shove them in your mouth and stop talking." Katrina narrowed her eyes and glowered at him.
"You want pizza or not?"
"Yeah, yeah." Ash nodded. "Give me a bite." Katrina moved in and allowed Ash to take a bite of the pizza.
"Is it good?" She asked as he chewed thoughtfully.
"Yeah." He replied after swallowing. He looked at the pizza and kind of made a facial guesture. Katrina just smiled and cocked her head to the side as if she didn't understand. Ash sighed.
"Another bite, please." He mumbled uncomfortably. Katrina laughed and continued to feed him the whole slice. Then she stopped and ate one herself while Ash looked down at the glass of soda on the table. There was long, curly green straw in it, like the kind found in cereal boxes. "As if I didn't feel like a kid enough." He grumbled and leaned in to sip some soda.
"Sorry, but it's the longest straw we had." She said, trying to stifle a giggle. She felt bad for laughing at his predicament, but he did look goofy. Cute, but very goofy.
"Sure." He sighed. Then he seemed to smile a bit. You notice it and frown. It was mischevious grin, the kind he got when he was going to make trouble. "Hey, Kat. Could you get me the salt from the kitchen? The pizza needs some."
Does she leave him alone to get the salt, or keep an eye on him?
