Chapter 3

Do I want something to eat or not?
Dinner sounds good
"Sure," I responded lamely, not sure what Julie was thinking at catching me staring at her body. "Dinner sounds good."
"Okay, John" Julie said with a smile, "It'll only take me a couple of minutes." I watched her walk from the room, noting the way of her ample hips and the way her ass moved under the tight fabric of her jeans. Damn, her husband was a lucky man, I thought to myself.
I sat there in the darkened living room by myself for about fifteen minutes before Julie reappeared. "Dinner's ready," She announced as she stood in the doorway. "I hope spaghetti is all right with you, it's all I had that wouldn't take a long time." Julie said as she led me back to the kitchen. I was too preoccupied with watching her ass to really care what was for dinner as she led me into the kitchen. "The storm has knocked out the electricity so we have to eat by candlelight," Julie said as she explained the two lit candles on the table. Nice mood lighting I thought as I took a seat. "What would you like to drink?" Julie asked, "I've got wine, beer, juice, and milk."
"Wine would be nice," I answered, wondering why I suddenly felt like I was on a date. Julie smiled at my answer and got a bottle of wine from one of the cabinets. "Where's your family?" I asked finally, trying to make the question casual enough that Julie wouldn't think I had any intentions towards her.
"Oh, my husband, Roger, took the kids to visit his mother. They were supposed to be back this afternoon but then the storm hit so I guess they're stuck there." Julie said as she poured both of us a large glass of wine. I felt a sense of elation at the news that her husband wouldn't be appearing anytime soon, although I was still thinking that my odds with Julie were very thin. As we ate we talked about our lives, catching up on what had happened in the years since we had last seen each other. When we were finished eating, the wine was half gone and we were both a little buzzed from the two glasses each that we had drank.
"Why don't we take the wine back to the living room and finish it by the fire?" I suggested as Julie cleared the dishes from the table. My suggestion must have taken her by surprise because she turned to me quickly, dropping the plate she had been carrying on the floor where it shattered. "Or maybe not." I said as I looked at the shocked expression on her face. "Forget I suggested it," I said finally as I got up to help her clean up the mess on the floor.
"No, John it's a good suggestion, it just caught me by surprise." Julie said as we both knelt down to pick up the remains of the plate. "It's been a long time since I've sat around drinking wine by a fire," Julie continued, "it sounds nice. With the kids being home most of the time and my husband working I hardly ever get a chance to relax like that. I'm a mother, John so don't think it's going to lead anywhere else, besides I'm married."
I wondered if that fact that she had mentioned her marriage last had any signifigance but I decided not to pursue the train of thought and finished clearing the table. After we had put the dishes into the dishwasher, I got the bottle of wine and the glasses and followed Julie back into the living room, sneaking quick glances at her ass as she walked. Julie sat on the couch as I placed the bottle and glasses on the coffee table, and went to put another log onto the dying fire. As I carefully placed the log on the glowing embers I tried to decide where to sit. If I sat on the couch it would make me seem more forward, as if I was trying to make a pass at Julie, but if I sat anywhere else I might blow my chances of making a pass.
Should I sit next to Julie or somewhere else?
