Dig a tunnel

With only a small stone dagger and your hands, you anticipate it will be a long process to dig a large enough hole to shield you from the rain, and from predators.

Without much hesitation you slam your dagger into the soft earth just to the left of where you were sleeping a few minutes ago.

Due to the nature of the ground at the bottom of the ravine, the soil is very soft but compacted allowing for progress to be made in a short amount of time. Within an hour your hole is approximately 3 feet deep, almost past your head.

Suddenly- *POP!*

You stop digging and bring up your right hand to your face. You can barely see anything in the darkness, but you can feel it. Your dagger just broke in half after hitting a large rock underground...

"Pahhh!" You yell as the hilt of the dagger goes flying out past the opening of the tree, landing in the wet mud.

Looks like you managed to dig about 3 feet 10 inches deep into the soft earth, leaving a hole just wide enough to slide into if you lay on your side.

"Whew!" Well, that was exhausting! A bonus for your hard work is that you've worked up a bit of heat in your veins and your shivering has finally subsided!

Time to go to sleep...
