Chapter 3 by Warden-Yarn15 Warden-Yarn15

What was she teaching her class?

Defeat-in-Detail

Outside of the university's campus were a few horses rode by Amelia and nine other students, all armed with flimsy foil swords made out of a very weak and flexible material alongside wet paint at the tips. After two weeks of forcing her students to read all there is to it in defense and assaulting a fortified position as far as the topic concerned as well as assigning groups of the attackers and defenders, splitting the class into a 1:6 ratio.

Trotting in an open field, Amelia and her group seemed to have been straying away from the University where in truth, they were trying to flank the agreed position from before.

"Now girls, as I've discussed before, the point of cavalry is to break the enemy and route those that are injured but still holding their ground, remember?" The teacher explained and the nobles of all species and dimensions nodded or uttered affirmation, "In this scenario, charging a town would be suicide, but it's the currently agreed scenario.

"And the point of Defeat-in-Detail, as you all may have read, is to defeat the enemy that is a largely numerically superior **** scattered across a given territory with your numerically inferior but combined forces." Spotting the 'town' which comprised of a few cardboard boxes surrounding ten students, the group stop, "There's the enemy, do I hear any suggestions from what to do?"

The class was quiet, either looking down at their horses, stroking their manes, or simply observing the first 'town' expecting someone else to answer. Amelia sighed at the lack of response, all except a breeze passing them by before waiting a few more seconds in silence, "How about we lure the enemy out first? Once they're in an open field rather than in the comfort of a town?"

The suggestion was applauded by her students, much to the happy facade of Amelia who then commanded her students to form a straight line behind her. Soon after the blow of a bugle, all of them charged which also caught the attention of the enemy defenders in the 'town' and immediately ran towards the outskirts to inspect the call and defend their fortification. What they saw was a confusing dance of horses going in a circle and chasing one another as their riders barked orders for them to either slow down or speed up.

Confused, a handful of defenders separated from town, decreasing the original ten down to four as students wielding toy swords or lances with wet paint at their tips. A group of horses detached from the spinning circle and half of the charging defenders gave chase to them. It was because of this separation of one another's group that Amelia shouted one command:

"Attack!" And the circle broke of away the defenders attempting to dispatch them before promptly turning back towards the now retreating or stunned students, arms aimed towards them as Amelia took the first slash of her group while others followed suit. For anyone to not be trampled on, Amelia - beforehand - ordered her students that they are separated wide enough to give space for two people to run side by side. That is not to say, however, that any of them are allowed to try and run over their fellow students.

Anything after that, such as poking one with a spear, is free game. Said game, however, was currently the defending team as the detachment group was mimicking their teacher by causing a route that was quickly overwhelmed in no time. The remaining garrison forces, on the other hand, held their ground and seemed eager as ever to defend the 'town' with whatever they had only for it to be decimated as the cavalry units encircled them immediately.

Classmates rallied into a circle, some with their apparels painted on, some with their skin. The horses too had a few blotches of paint on them, but their teacher pointed out that they weren't found on locations too harmful for the horses and that most of the defenders aimed at their riders rather than steeds. After a checkup on her students' wellbeing, Amelia then told them to return to the university and take a shower, leaving only after they spotted a carriage to come and pick the others up.

The tactic of divide and conquer became a running theme on that day, and while members of her cavalry group were disqualified from one match and another, they did win the day even when the sun was setting and prepared her students to march back to the university, some in carriages while others on their steeds.

After a long day's work, Amelia was tired. Her crotch was sore from riding her horse and her throat was at its end from shouting orders. After a short nap on her desk, she headed towards the university's showers as well hoping that her students were already finished before her.

Were they finish?
