Days turn into weeks turn into months, and you adapt

The chores that first day are simple, and you're easily able to do them. You feel a budding sense of pride when your father comes home and tells you that you've done a good job. His attention makes you happy.

Over the next several days, he adds more and more to your chores, sets his standards higher and higher. The fourth day, you fail to live up to his standards. The punishment is the same as the first day. And now, it's undeniable, the arousal you feel at your humiliation.
