Day One

It was commonly said that this was the first day of the rest of your life, but that was really the day you graduated. This was the first day of senior year in Amorous High School. It wasn't exactly the rest of your life, was it?

Summer seemed to not last nearly as long as it had the year before, but all the same everyone was excited for the first day. The new freshman finally got to be a part of the teen scene, the sophomores were one step above the freshman and finally had a little taste of social control in the school. The juniors felt more experienced and carefree than they did last year, this year was going to be a breeze for them. Then the seniors, the alphas of the whole pack, a bunch of young adults getting a taste of true freedom outside of school and having finally the control of being the top dogs in class. As well as that one last final step towards graduating and being freer than ever before, or so everyone thinks.

The day had just begun, the freshmen were in orientation in the gym and everyone else had gotten their schedule from the few hundred papers lined out on the cafeteria tables.

The first class that Benjamin had gotten this year was English. The first class was always seen as the "home room" and was thirty minutes longer than the rest of the class periods. After English, was math, Ben was in an average math class than what his grade required him to take, just enough to pass through the school year. Nothing special happened there. Following math Benjamin went on to history class, then there was a lunch break.

Benjamin hadn't really made any friends the past year. He had barely shown up for school but this year was practically being ****. Every class period he had to have his teachers sign a form at the end of the class saying that he was present for the entire year. Talk about bothersome. For lunch Ben stuck to himself, choosing the court yard over the crowded and loud cafeteria room. He didn't talk to anyone and went on his way once the hour was up.

After lunch it was back to the classes. Gym class was next, then after that was citizenship class, which was required to pass to graduate these days, and finally, the elective hour. Benjamin didn't have a clue what to pick so he had grabbed the easiest class he could think of and that was art class. He had a knack for drawing, he had designed a few of his own skateboard decks and figured he could just work on that at the end of the day...every day.

Once school was finally out Ben took to the streets on his board, he didn't return home till well after decent, nearly midnight and went straight to his room while avoiding his family. As he laid down in bed the day had just seemed to drag on and on at school. He didn't want to go back tomorrow and had this feeling that the school year was only going to get worse and worse. He didn't like the idea of turning nineteen and still being in school come October, but such was life. Maybe tomorrow wouldn't be as boring.
