Darkness

Zoe crawled through the hole, the boys lowering her down gently until her feet touched the ground. Zoe spun around, the darkness almost suffocating her, a sense of panic beginning to set in. Zoe scrambled for her flashlight and turned it on, illuminating the dark basement. To Zoe's surprise, the large space was practically empty, large boilers lined one wall and a single chair was set back against a pillar in the centre. Previous adventures to abandoned buildings had usually resulted in basements being full of rubbish and items that had long been forgotten. She guessed that the rest of the house would be completely empty, furniture and fixtures removed, leaving an empty shell. She could explore the rest of the house later, but first she needed to get out of the creepy basement and let her friends in.

Out of the corner of her eye, Zoe saw a small flicker of light, possibly from a candle. "Shit" exclaimed Zoe in a careful whisper. She wasn't alone. She turned off the torch, using the light of the candle as a rough guide, she found her way to the steps leading out of the basement. She quietly crept up the stairs, her heart beating at 100mph, a small creak from the old wooden steps would give her away. She reached out for the door knob, turning it gently. She looked back into the darkness, she had made it out unscathed. She turned back toward the open door only to look in pure terror at the feet in front of her.
