Dangerous

It was like night and day after you walked just ten meters in. The amount of biodiversity was staggering with hundreds of small butterfly-like insects swarming around you in curiosity before zooming away like a school of fish before you could grab one. There were multiple small game trails all around as well as a larger trail that indicated something you didn't want to cross paths with. As you were taking all of this in you suddenly felt Jessie tackle you. As you felt your back impact the floor with you she was already rolling off you and tossing a small device that you recognized as a sonic grenade. As it went off you finally saw the reason for her actions.

It was obvious why you hadn't seen it, the creature in front of you had a camouflage pattern that perfectly blended in with the jungle around it. As the grenade exploded its form was revealed in full as it turned a bright blue. The creature was covered in a short fur-like substance, obviously it wasn't the real thing considering its poly-chromatic abilities. Its four legs ended in small hook structures, obviously a means of hanging on to the trees above it. The head was narrow with a not-quite beak that seemed like it was made for crushing rather than chewing. It made to scurry off before a hole appeared in its side, sizzling at the edges. Obviously something vital was hit as it dropped immediately and didn't get back up.

Jessie was kneeled down next to you with her rifle aimed at the prone form while she scanned the area. She got up and approached the body slowly to put another laser blast into it's head for good measure. She then came back to give you a hand up. "Well I guess we've found our first unique species. I don't recognize this one from the briefing." She said, keeping an eye out for more just in case it was a pack hunter.

"Judging by the hooks its obviously an ambush predator. I think it would have left our initial survey teams alone. A herd provides protection." You said as you looked at it, trying to slow down your heart rate. Everything had happened so quickly, if Jessie hadn't seen the threat you could have been hurt just by the weight of the creature landing on your head. To say nothing on if it had found some kind of weak spot in your armor that it could bite through.
