Could have been better, but some things get resolved

Regina’s question was answered by Friendly Paws furrowing her eyebrows, which to me felt like she had finally remembered who she had been staring at. Of course, it would have been too good to be true if the Paws that awoke had been the real heroine I admired, rather than the shallow copy of her left by the villain controlling her mind.

No such luck. Paws shifted her body weight around, adopting a distinctive battle pose of her: knees bent, hands on the floor, weight shifted to her back as she gazed upwards. She was ready to jump at us claws first. There was a problem with such an idea: she was in a cage that annulled her powers. This meant that she couldn’t make her claws appear.

To me, it looked like she had figured that part out in the middle of her jump. But there was still a sadistic smile on her face, ready to inflict pain despite the setback. I suppose she must have been happy just to have a chance to hit us. Which she might have been able to, if it wasn’t for the already mentioned problem. Clear glass separating us from her or not, she was still in a cage. And she only figured that one out when her face got squished and she fell to the floor.

I didn’t pay attention to who among us started laughing, but we were all doing it by the time Paws was rolling around the floor with her hands covering a bruised nose. It wasn’t my first time watching something like this transpire, there were quite a few instances available on the web of moments where the feline instincts won out and the number one loudmouth heroine forgot that transparent solids existed. But man, it was so much funnier to have it happen right in front of you when you could have least expected it.

As the laughter died down, I could hear the only man in the room trying to get our attention. “Wait-wait… Wasn’t she the cat lady with the claws that couldn’t actually cut through stuff?” The smile on his face could be better described as a bridge between a faulty memory and an amusing thought. Whatever he was about to say next got interrupted by the target of the mockery that would have been.

“PEOPLE!” Paws yelled as she staggered back up. “THEY CAN’T CUT THROUGH PEOPLE!”. Bizarre as it was, hope flowed to my heart as I sensed the anger with which she yelled the correction. I had personally had to correct that misconception about her powers many times during discussions on online forums, so I could only imagine how much this had been asked to the real Friendly Paws and the frustration that might cause. Who knows? Maybe we could use her anger to get her to break free?

“And why the fuck am I naked?!” Paws immediately covered her genitals as she tried to find the guilty party for her panty theft. Quite frankly, I’m amazed that she wouldn’t immediately turn to Regina as the obvious perpetrator, but I suppose that she lacked the knowledge I had in hand.

“Oh, I’m so terribly sorry, Miss Paws!” Regina begged for forgiveness with a complete lack of sincerity. “I’m afraid I made a mistake. I assumed you wanted the world to know that you were a pussycat!”

I had to wonder if Regina had read my mind about the anger thing. After all, Paws had to know by now what would have happened to her if she did it, but she still jumped right into the glass in the hopes of giving my friend a black eye, only to hurt herself again. Still funny the second time.

“So, while ah do respect everyone’s right to privacy, why in the blue hell are we imprisoning Catgirl Cuteclaws?” Shayna asked after she stopped giggling. The question, thankfully, sounded to be born out of curiosity and not much more.

“Don’t listen to them!” Cutecl- I mean, Paws yelled as she stood up yet again. “She and the pervert are very dangerous criminals, you hear me? It doesn’t matter what they’ve threatened you with, they’ll do it to you whether you work with them or not! You have to fight back and release me!” While I was glad that the prolonged sleep hadn’t seemed to damage her brain, the fact that Friendly Paws could so easily create a narrative to discredit us worried the most paranoid parts of my mind. Thankfully, she neglected to consider the chance that the people we had asked for help were not the kind to be deterred from helping ‘dangerous criminals’.

“Ah always suspected ya were a pervert.” Shayna mocked her boyfriend with a shove on the shoulder. “What kind of guy asks a lady to give him a BJ in a public bathroom?”

“Yeah, sure, but ya accepted or not?” He shoved her back. “And don’t act like I haven’t had to deal with grosser stuff when I go down on ya while-”

“I get it, you’re criminals too!” Paws shouted, palms fully covering her ears. “I don’t need to get any of you creepy sex-life details on top of that!”

Clearly, this was going nowhere fast, and I wanted to try my hand at finding some way to wake up the dormant personality “I believe that we need to talk.”

“Huh?” Sheesh, how distracted must she have been to forget about me? The answer seemed to be ‘a lot’, because her whole expression changed the moment she laid eyes on me again. Annoyance was replaced by a facade of indifference. “There’s nothing we have to talk about. I gave you a chance. And you didn’t just reject it, but you decided to mess with my mind in all kinds of gross ways. If you think you can trick me into becoming the white furball curling in your lap as you make your speech of how you plan to take over the world, think again. My friends will find you, and they’ll avenge me.”

I didn’t get an option to reply. She sat herself on the floor with crossed legs and closed eyes as soon as she finished talking, and nothing I could say would get her attention. After five minutes of my time had been wasted, I realized that I wouldn’t be able to reach her without the use of the ring. And considering how strong whoever her puppet master was had to be in order to control someone like her, I could see that this wouldn’t be a wise idea for the moment.

Thankfully, during that time frame, our new allies had been given the rundown of the situation. “Don’t you worry about nothin’, miss. Ain’t nobody findin’ this place within the next century if we don’t want ‘em to!” Mark assured me as he patted my back. It felt strange to barely feel any sensation from such a large hand recklessly hitting my smaller frame. This would have definitely put me off my balance last week.

“Well, you could have fooled me!” Rose scoffed. “I didn’t exactly feel wanted, but we sure did come here as we pleased, didn’t we?”

Shayna didn’t take too kindly to that. “Oh, Rose, I had no idea ya didn’t feel welcome in the house of the people you screwed over two times!” She got closer to her. “Maybe you should have thought of that years ago. Consider ya self lucky that we’re forgiving folk.”

“You still think I did that?” Rose rolled her eyes, but she didn’t back down. “Smart enough to build a lab, too dumb to admit you made a lot of wrong choices and that would bite you in the ass down the road. Guess that some things never change around the two of you”

“The fuck did I do?” Mark protested. Not moving from where he stood, but staring daggers. “Don’t ya ever take a moment to think before you burn your bridges?”

“Oh will you all shut up and fuck already?!” Regina whined, succeeding in stealing all the attention for herself. “I don’t know nor care about what happened when you were all in college or whatever, all of you clearly want to bang each other’s brains out.”

No one could get a word out before she closed the distance. “Like, look at you. Shayna, baby, you are totally cranky that you didn’t get to dominate me. And I get it, I’m gorgeous and it would have been lovely for you to **** me as you rammed your fist in. But do you need to be so blatant in staring at Rose’s boobs?”

We all shared a look with one another. It seemed to good to be true, like there had to be some sort of trick behind it. But would she really be so blatant if this was meant to be a trap. Regina broke our silence. "I, for one, am very annoyed that seemingly none of you want to what's obviously the best call and have the six of us fucking inside that jar." She shakes her head.
