Does Mat continue to Egwene, or take a detour?
Continues on
Finally, towards the end of the hall Mat saw two women standing outside a wide wooden door, and stopped before them. He could tell, by the lack of colored shall on their shoulders that they had not been accepted into one of the Ajahs of Aes Sedai yet, so they must have been merely accepted then. They still cold Aes Sedai glance they gave to all men who weren’t bonded to them as their warders. “What do you want?” One of them asked. Mat took a deep breath trying not to lose his temper.
“I have come on behalf of Rand Al’Thor the Dragon Reborn.” He paused for emphasis but saw no emotion cross their smooth ageless faces. That was the thing with Aes Sedai, they gave no indication of anything, and their agelessness was really unsettling. He cleared his throat and continued “I have been given instruction to return Egwene Al’Vere back to him.” He finished.
After a brief glance at one another they opened the door slightly and poked their heads in, and one spoke “I’m so sorry Mother, but a man claiming to be Mat is here to take you to the Dragon Reborn, may I let him in?” Mother? Mat thought. Mat heard some chattering in the room from a few female voices, and he heard his name being mentioned a couple of times.
“Lily? Let him in, oh and the girl too please.” A clear voice said from inside the room. That was definitely different than how Mat remembered Egwene, and how had she known Aviendha was beside him? Mat shook his head and mumbled a curse which he got a stare from Aviendha and a sniff from one of the guards about. Mat walked into the room and saw Egwene sitting in a large chair behind a desk in the middle of the room. As he looked around the room to see all possible escape routes, his eyes fell on Elyane, the Daughter- Heir of the Kingdom of Andor, and Nynaeve as well.
How is his presence received?
