I walked over to the only free seat on the couch next to Sam. Just my luck, I thought. Barbara and my mom started chatting away and I filtered it out as I watched TV. I didn't really want to be there and I would've liked to just get up and leave but that would be very rude and my mum would get angry.

After who knows how many minutes of Barbara and my mom chatting away I heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Jess finally decided to come join us, I thought. Although I wouldn't be surprised if her hearing was permanently damaged after blasting my speakers like that.

"Ah here's my other daughter Jessica. Come and sit down." My mum looked around and realized there were no seats.

"Oh that's fine, I just came down for a glass of water." Jessica said, raising an empty glass. "I didn't know anyone was coming over."
