Commander Lorne Brown, 2nd in command of the ship

Mai spotted the second in command of the ship, Commander Brown, in the corner of the lounge. He was just outside the dance floor, sitting at a table with a 3d Chess board. Brown was tall and skinny, but handsome nonetheless and had big hands. He was older than most of the other officers, probably 40 years old.

Mai approached him with a drink. "Hello sir, mind if I join you?" she asked.

"Not at all, go right ahead. Are you a chess player?"

"I'm terrible, but I know how to play." She took a seat opposite the Commander and took a big gulp of her drink.

For the first few moves, the two were silent. Mai realized that the Commander was in his 'business' mode and was concentrating on winning the game. Determined to break him, she said in a sultry tone, "So, Commander, do you have any family on board?"

"No, I'm single. Do you, Ensign..."

"Seiki. Mai Seiki. Today is my first day on board." Mai smiled as she made her move to take a bishop.

Commander Brown paused and concentrated on the game for an extended moment before responding. "Ah. Welcome to the Constellation."

Mai waited for her turn before finishing her drink. "Excuse me, I'll be right back, I need to get another drink. Can I get you anything?"

"No thanks." Mai returned a moment later with a fresh drink. She sat, sipping and staring at Commander Brown. She peered at him through the middle section of the holographic chess board, her eyes squinted slightly and a grin across her face.

"Your move, Ensign."

Mai finished her 2nd drink swiftly. "Do you like to bet, Commander?"

"Well, I have been known to lose a lot of my paycheck each shore leave. What did you have in mind?"

"I was thinking something a little less...material. I was talking to a few of the other new crewmembers and they all agreed that you came across as a little stuffy. No offense, sir. I was thinking, if I win, you have to show up for bridge duty in the buff."

Commander Brown finally broke his almost trance-like focus on the game with a loud belly laugh. "What if I win?"

"I'll do the same thing, but in any area of the ship that you'd like." She grinned widely, hoping her point got across.

"You're on. You know, you aren't exactly winning right now..."

Mai licked the rim of the glass, getting the last bit of her drink down her throat. "Oh, the game could go either way."
