Check out the alley

"Single file" you say "and let’s get out of this place". As your men move down the alley you become more and more aware of what a dangerous place this is. Several times you have to step through narrow archways that are only four feet tall, there are doors and windows every ten feet or so. The doors hang loosely from leather hinges and are nailed together from mismatched pieces of old lumber. Some of the windows have shutters and others have oiled parchment stretched across the opening letting in a little of the dim light. Twice you see curious faces peering at you, once through a crack in the top of a door and the second time from a sewer grating at your feet. Just as you are about to order your men to turn back you see more light from a courtyard ahead. Pushing through one more narrow archway you stumble out into a small courtyard.

As you let out a sigh of relief you hear a loud clang from behind you and see that a large metal grate has blocked the door you just moved through.

"Ambush" yelled one of the leading scouts and as he does a boulder hits him of the arm and shattes it at the shoulder and elbow. Dropping his sword he like all your men raise their shields above their heads.

The shields do little good, looking around in panic you see that all the exits to this courtyard have been reinforced. As you see three more of your men fall you are hit and driven to the ground. Your last thought before you lose consciousness is "I should have stayed on the boulevard."
