Character Creation Part II (Noble)
The result of the vote was: 3 votes for Commoner, also 3 votes for Noble, and 2 votes for Titleless. So I decided on a rather unusual way to solve the tie - I am posting threads for both Noble and Commoner, and will decide which one to continue based on people's votes and comments. Here's the Noble version:
The city of Grevon, south-east Alteria
The city of Grevon is one of the few large alterian cities that have not yet been attacked by the demonic hordes - though it is only a matter of time. Many thousands of people live there, and among them are Diana and her mother Ophelia. Diana's father died of an illness when she was just two months old, so she never knew him.
Diana is a Summoner - a type of spellcaster whose primary ability is to summon various creatures to do their bidding. Though due to her youth and inexperience her actual abilities are rather limited. [Summoning Skill +1, Command Skill +1]
During the Graam War Ophelia never took advantage of her status as a noble, but her skills earned her a rank that put her above regular soldiers, regardless.
Vote 1: What was Ophelia's rank during the war [and what does Diana get from it]?
A1. A Commander [+2 Melee Attack, +1 Melee Defense, and +2 Tactics]
A2. A Ranger [+2 Ranged Attack, +1 Ranged Defense, and +2 Scouting]
A3. A War Sorceress [+2 Magic Attack, +1 Magic Defense, and +100 Max Mana]
A4. A Summoner [+2 Summoning Skill, +1 Command Skill, and 1 extra summon] (if this option is chosen the extra summon will be voted on in the next chapter)
Naturally, Diana was trained by her mother and learned many valuable lessons. In addition, as a noble's daughter she had a lot of free time that she used to train on her own and to read many books, further improving her skills.
Vote 2: Which skills did she train?
Pick 4 different skills - she gets +1 level to each skill.
Important: Her skills affect not only her, but also her summons. For example, if she has Basic Resource Gathering skill at level 10 all of her Worker Golems will also get +10 to their Basic Resource Gathering skill, making them more effective at gathering resources.
List of skills:
* Melee Attack - increases melee damage inflicted
* Melee Defense - decreases melee damage taken
* Ranged Attack - increases ranged damage inflicted
* Ranged Defense - decreases ranged damage taken
* Magic Attack - increases magic damage inflicted
* Magic Defense - decreases magic damage taken
* Tactics - the skill to effectively command groups of underlings (be they sumons or people) in battle
* Scouting - a skill needed for scouting areas and discovering anything of interest
* Summoning Skill - higher levels are required to create or summon stronger creatures
* Command Skill - grants 10 command points per skill level. The stronger a summon is the more command points are needed to keep it under control. Not enough points and the creature might flee (or worse - turn on its summoner)
* Seduction - with this skill Diana will be able to seduce people. Once she gets suitable summons they too will be able to make use of this skill
* Stealth - allows Diana and her summons to move silently, thus making them harder to detect
* Hide - the skill for any summoner who needs summons that can reliably hide and ambush people
* Basic Resource Gathering - exactly what it says. Improves the effectiveness of resource gathering. Also limits the max level of any specific resource gathering skill (for example, if Diana has Basic Resource Gathering at level 2, then Woodcutting is also limited to at most level 2)
* Suggest another skill (any skill suggested is subject to my approval).
Ophelia was convinced that the demons would soon reach Grevon, and the defenders would not be able to hold them off for long. She decided to leave the city together with Diana and a few close servants - but simply leaving town would only delay the inevitable. Therefor she chose something a bit more drastic - to leave the world of Karladia and flee to another world. Doing so would require opening a portal to the other world - something beyond Ophelia's skills. Fortunately, she was a minor noble and that meant she had something almost as good: money. Her family's wealth, combined with the fact that numerous people still owed her favors from the time of the Graam War, allowed her to hire a sorceress with the needed skills. Soon Ophelia and Diana had a portal ready and waiting to take them to a new world, not far from a small village there. Then things went wrong...
The sorceress had arrived two days earlier than expected – apparently there were quite a few people in Grevon in need of her services and thus she had rushed to the city. As a result the portal was ready before Ophelia and her daughter were prepared to leave. Despite rushing as much as they could the two noblewomen and their servants could not finish packing on the same day and had to delay leaving Karladia until the next day...
The following morning Diana and her mother were in a small dining room - one of several in their mansion. They were accompanied by three other people: Sanya and Tanya, Ophelia's personal maids-slash-bodyguards, and Elena, Diana's new personal maid-slash-bodyguard (the previous one had quit almost an year ago and had fled the continent when her entire family had gone to live with their cousins on one of the islands). The five women were alone after the servants had served their breakfast and left them, as instructed.
"This is likely the last meal we will have here for a very long time, so let's enjoy it." Ophelia said and the five started eating. Each one had barely taken three bites when they were interrupted by the tolling of a warning bell.
"Demons? Already? Dammit!" Ophelia cursed as she realized what the bell meant. "They must have sent a scouting party to check out the city's defenses before launching a real attack." She paused as she looked at her duaghter. "There's no time to waste, so breakfast's over. Diana, Elena, take whatever you deem most important and go. Sanya, Tanya, come with me. We will check out the attacking demons and kill any that try to attack this place, then we will follow my daughter through the portal." She commanded as she got up.
"Should I not come with you and help, mother?" Diana quickly asked.
"I appreciate the thought, dear, but I will be fine, so no need to put yourself in unnecessary danger. Now go!" And with that Ophelia left, followed by her bodyguards. Diana and Elena were left alone, the maid waiting for her mistress' orders.
Vite 3: What does Diana take?
B1. She gets her Greater Summoner's Staff from her room - boosts her Max Mana and all of her summoning skills. +50 Max Mana, +5 Summoning Skill, +2 Command Skill
B2. She takes some Mana Crystals from the storage - +10 Small Mana Crystals. Each Small Mana Crystal can store 100 Mana, and regenerates 1 mana per hour. Can be used in the crafting of some items
B3. She takes some Elemental Crystals from the storage - +10 random Elemental Crystals (used to more easily summon certain elemental creatures). Can be used in the crafting of some items, or can be sold for money
B4. She takes some books from the mansion's library - 5 random skill books (used to learn or improve her skills; if you choose this option, please pick a number between 1 and 100 to help determine the books she gets)
B5. She takes some jewelry - can be sold for money, or used in the crafting of some items, or can help summon certain creatures
B6. Who cares about any of that? She goes to help her mother! - +relationship with her mother and some loot from defeated enemies (If you choose this option, please pick a number between 1 and 100 to help determine the loot she gets)
Vote 4: The portal will bring her close to a small village. What kind of village is it?
C1. A snow-covered village in the mountains
C2. A small village in a large forest
C3. A small farming village in the plains
C4. A small village in the hills
C5. A small fishing village on the coast of the sea
C6. Another type of small village (specify)
And so it begins...
