Chapter 2

Parker Witherspoon, the grey haired manager of The Carrington Country Club was attempting to enjoy his lunch in his office when his office door flew open without warning.

“Mr. Witherspoon!”

In the door stood Vanessa English. The billionairess who had nothing better to do than make his life miserable.

“Yes, Miss English?”

Vanessa was feeling especially powerful that day, having just orchestrated the removal of a Carrington member that wasn’t up to her lofty standards.

“I have to inform you that we have another rather questionable new member here,” she said inviting herself to sit down in front of Mr. Witherspoon’s desk.

“Oh really?”

“Yes, I just saw her. Her name is Angie Turner, and I can tell you from previous personal experience that she is NOT Carrington material.”

Mr. Witherspoon thought for a second.

“Angie Turner? Who is that?”

“Don’t you know? My God, what is happening here? She was just being given the Carrington tour. I saw it with my own eyes.”

“Can you give me more details?”

“She’s my age, a little taller than me, clearly someone who could use some grooming…”

“Hmmm, still not sure.”

Vanessa was getting even more frustrated.

“Oh for heaven’s sake, she’s black!”

“Ooooh yes! You mean Angela Hudson! Yes, yes, fine young woman. She’s exactly who we want here.”

It was as though he hadn’t heard a word she’d been saying.

“Hudson?”

“Yes, she’s married to a neurosurgeon, Dr. Timothy Hudson. Also a member. And she’s the CFO of a Fortune 500 company. Really she passed through with flying colors. You’ll like her I think. Do you know her?”

This was insane.

“Yes I know her! That’s what I’ve been telling you! Mr. Witherspoon, I don’t know what game she’s playing but this is not someone we want hanging around here. I knew her in school and trust me, she is definitely NOT Carrington material.”

“I see, I see. But you know Vanessa, school was a long time ago and people DO change.”

Vanessa couldn’t believe her ears.

“So perhaps it’s best we not rush to judgement on Mrs. Hudson until she’s had time to fully experience what The Carrington has to offer? Makes sense, right?” Mr. Witherspoon smiled, knowing he was making perfect of the situation.

“Mr. Witherspoon!”

The smiled disappeared.

Vanessa leaned forward and pointed a gloved finger in Mr. Witherspoon’s face.

“I don’t believe I have to remind just who you are talking to and how long my family has been a member of this institution! Or remind you just how much money we GIVE to this place. There are other country clubs you know, however WE remain LOYAL to the Carrington. So when I tell you that there is an undesirable here I expect you to take that information very seriously!”

Mr. Witherspoon shrank in his chair as Vanessa berated him. By the time she was done speaking he was practically under the desk.

"I don't care who she's married or where she works, that woman is trash! I won't stand for trash being allowed into MY country club!"

Vanessa stood up, pleased with herself that she once again let it be known who was boss around here and walked out. Beating up on poor Mr. Witherspoon had turned her on. She was the queen of the country club. It was time enjoy that status.

She pulled out her cell phone and sent the following text: Danny Boy! Meet me in our usual place in 5 minutes. Princess Vanny needs your silver dollar NOW!
