Cesar discovered magic in his blood--a heritage passed down from his grandmother, yet laid dormant in his mother--when he was trying to fight off a group of bullies in the slums of the vast human city of Canaan, in the Grand Europa Continent. Growing up as the runt of a six-member family that struggled to stay above the poverty line was never easy prior to his discovery. That was when his grandmother transferred him from the city's public school system, to the magic academy outside the city. While Cesar used his teachings to harness the power of magic, he also found a love for swordplay, practicing with one-handed weapons of all kinds, whenever he found time. At first, the magic academy tried to get him to give up swordplay, but later allowed him to work occasionally with the city guard to hone his skills, paying the way for him to become a battlemage.

His graduation from basic schooling at the magic academy at the age of 18 couldn't have ended at a worst time. That was when the city came under attack from a rival human faction. The city garrison managed to drive off the siege, but it came at a terrible cost. One of the flaming projectiles from an enemy trebuchet found his family's home, killing his entire family, and leaving nothing but the clothes on his back, and the meager belongings he had at the academy. That led him to the life of adventure, joining a mercenary company where he honed his battlemage skills even more, eventually finding Janissa when the company headed to the Great Sulphur Wasteland.
