Carefully

After the car had passed, Alice continued along the road. Every few minutes, a car would be heard around a bend, and Alice would duck into the brush. It was much slower progress, but it was progress nonetheless.

Eventually, Alice hit a road block. Whereas before she had been able to duck into the trees, ahead of her lied a stretch of road a mile long, fields on each side. She tried searching for a tree, and found only one, over a fence at about the halfway point. Alice gulped, intimidated by the task ahead of her.
