Chapter 5
by Bluequoise
Did you sleep well?
Can we say "Rip Van Winkle"?
Sounds are the first thing you become aware of. There is a light humming noise on your left side.
Touch follows, you feel like you're floating in warm water. You feel weightless, but slowly your body feels like it's burning, and suddenly your world comes alive.
Your eyes fly open and you take a sharp breath, then immediately groan. Your body had been still for so long that rigor mortis had set in. Medicine has known that the muscles grow stiff when not regularly used, that and atrophy are commonly documented for long-term coma patients who wake up years after falling into their trauma slumber. But you weren't ready for this wake-up.
Your tank was still sealed and the glass had turned opaque during your sleep, but you could see light on the other side. You try to speak but can only cough.
"My apologies for your rough awakening SGT Jones." the emotionless voice of Cassiopeia was still somehow comforting, "The Captain and I are having a discussion on the bridge and she would like to include your opinion in the matter, when you feel able please join us."
You have to blink your eyes at the light as the lid to your stasis tank slid open. And once your eyes adjusted to being used again you could tell that everything was covered in dust. Not just the floors and tables, but the ceiling and walls too.
The reason was soon aparent, as your body was released from the needles and straps that held you in place you drifted forward. Drifted, there was no gravity in the ship at the moment. The majority of the ship and all the stasis tanks were in centrifuge rings to provide a noticeable amount of gravity, thought not as much as earth or the ExoJ Stations because of their size, but right now there was none meaning their rotation had been shut off.
Carefully, slowly, and painfully you reach out and grab the side of your tank in an attempt to retrieve your clothing. The had been in vacuum storage to prevent oxygen breakdown, but with all the dust you wondered how long they'd been in storage.
They seemed alright and you carefully pulled them on while keeping one hand holding your tank at all times. The more you moved the easier it became, but your stiff and burning muscles were still making you wince with each action.
You noticed another empty tank near yours. Lucky was in there, but no longer is, so he must have also been woken up and on his way to the bridge.
With a painful grunt you kick off your tank to propel yourself to the hallway that leads to the main corridor.
Where too?
