Call the whole thing off

You get up the next morning and your wife is already up as usual, and still angry as you can hear her stomping around upstairs. Deciding to stay out of her way, you get breakfast and make a pot of coffee while she showers and gets dressed. When she comes down, you say a quiet good morning in passing, but she only glares back. While she eats her breakfast you head up to the bathrooom to shower. By the time you're dressed and ready to go, she's already left, and you notice that switching up your usual routine has made you slightly late for work.

When you get to work, you briefly apologize to your boss before heading to your desk to start doing the work for the company's clients. It isn't difficult but it is time consuming, so it's almost lunch time before you even think of contacting Matt to let him know that Ariana is very much against the idea of a swap date. Since Matt works in a different department, with a different boss, you can't just walk over to the next cubical to talk to him, so you text him during your lunch break.

You: Ari blew up when i told her bttr call date off

You wait several minutes for a reply. Since Matt's job involves communicating with clients and gaining their influence and confidence, his lunch break doesn't always line up with yours. In fact lunch meetings with clients can sometimes be his busiest time so you aren't even sure if you're going to hear back from him any time soon. But just before your lunch break ends you hear the ping of your phone.

Matt: Wat? She already txtd earlier 2 confirm date + time

You stare at the message baffled. Ariana was so angry last night and still cold this morning. So why would she carry on with the date? Unless this was some kind of **** to you for setting up the date in the first place. The thought of her doing this to get back at you makes you scared and your blood runs cold. This wasn't supposed to be about hurting each other.

You: Maybe we should still cancel

Sitting idle at your desk, you're too distracted to do any work and just stare blankly at your screen until your phone buzzes to life a few moments later.

Matt: Cant already booked restaurant

Their plans have already progressed that far while you have no idea where you might take Kali. Surprised you quickly reply to him.

You: Wat? Where?

The wait is short but it still feels excruciating, although the wait is nothing compared to the terror that his reply strikes into your heart.

Matt: told me not to tell you haha u really pissed her off

Your best friend is right. You don't think you've ever seen your wife this furious before that she would go out of her way to hurt you like that. Sitting back for a minute, you think about your options. You could call off your date with Kali still. Maybe an act of good faith will get your wife to back down too. And if she doesn't, you could follow and see where they go. Alternatively, two can play at her game, and you could just go on your date with Kali and not let her games get to you.
