Chapter 7

What Task will you try?
Call over a friend
In the end, you decide to go with the one that feels like it will help you through this the most: Call over a friend. You don’t exactly have a lot of those these days, most of them have drifted apart, moved away from the city. But as you scroll through your contact list, you do find someone: Gerald. Not only is he still in the city, he’s one of the few people you still make time to hang out with sometimes.
If you call him, you’re sure he’ll pick up. You hit the call button, and after a few rings the call connects, and you hear a grunt on the other side. You realize it’s still early, and a Saturday, and so immediately say, “Oh, sorry, forgot how early it is.” It’s only now that you can really tell how much the changes have affected your voice, and make an effort to lower it a bit before saying, “Uh, yeah, this is Jake. Can you come over? I’ll buy breakfast.” You throw in that last detail on a whim, hoping the promise of food will absolutely guarantee his arrival.
There’s a small pause, and then Gerald says, “Jake? Dude, it sounds like you’ve got a cold or something.” You hear a yawn, and then he adds, “Yeah, I’ll come over, just give me an hour.” The call ends, and you realize your heart is beating way too fast. Was calling someone on the phone making you nervous? Why?
Shaking those nerves off, you bring up a food delivery service and order breakfast from your favorite diner. You know what to get Gerald, but you find yourself interested in your normal choice of breakfast food, a big plate of eggs and sausages and bacon and pancakes. It just sounds...too heavy for you. In fact, thinking about it too much almost makes you feel bloated. Instead, you go with one of the healthy light breakfasts, with egg whites and crepes.
Now you’re waiting for the food to come, but it occurs to you that you haven’t selected on the app that you called your friend. But...do you want to do that? After all, you don’t know for sure what it will do to you, and maybe it would be better to talk about things with your friend first. You leave your phone charging in your room, then head into the living room to wait for the food.
But as the minutes pass, the fact you haven’t notated your finished Task won’t leave your mind. You put it off as long as you can, but in the end you can’t help it. You end up running into the bedroom, unlocking your phone, and clicking the Task. As the pop-up with the effects appears, you get a wave of relief like nothing you’ve ever experienced before.
Conversation 0->1
Charisma 14->17
Girliness 5->8
Motivation 19->21
Obedience 38->42
Now that you know that these aren’t just random stats, but actual things that are changing about you, they’re a lot less fun to look at. The worst part is, you can actually feel them happening now. Just in your mind, that bubbling up energy and drive grows stronger, which you now know is linked to your Motivation score. This is the first time Obedience has changed, but you swear you can find yourself feeling more happy than anything else about finally doing as the app wanted and clicking the Task. Clearly, this damn thing has a lot of power over you.
Suddenly, a doorbell rings, and you jump up from your bed to go get the food. As you walk, the physical changes start to take effect. It was only a small jump up in Girliness, but the points went straight to your breasts. The tiny things pulse under your t-shirt, growing larger. They’re still small breasts, but they’re no longer so flat that most people wouldn’t be able to notice them. The fact you’re not wearing a bra under your t-shirt doesn’t help matters. The Charisma takes effect too, subtly altering your face to be more conventionally femininely attractive.
You open the door, and the guy standing there with your food must be at least a decade younger than you, his baby face covered in acne. He hands you the food without a word, and you murmur a thanks and close the door. It isn’t until you’ve set the food on your table that you realize he must have been staring at you, the same way you’ve stared at a number of girls before. You don’t know what to do with that information, and elect to ignore it.
The food is barely on the table when there’s a knock on the door again, and you open it to find that this time it’s Gerald. He’s always been a bit taller than you, but the changes seem to have increased the gap. You’ve heard mutual friends describe Gerald as looking like the scruffy, sarcastic best friend to the male lead in a romcom, and you find now more than ever that really fits him. He looks around, before settling his eyes on you. “Uh, is Jake here?” You feel like an idiot, of course he doesn’t recognize you. Should you try to explain the truth to him, or come up with a clever lie?
What are you going to tell Gerald?
