Buildings

In the distance the group could see what looked like buildings. As they got closer it became clear that what they are seeing really are buildings – quite surprising because they were in a forest, although it wasn’t very dense or dangerous. As Nicolas and his guards got ever closer to the buildings he wondered what they had stumbled upon.

When the group was close enough Nicolas realized the buildings were actually some sort of animal farm. Just then a small group of men came out and stopped on the side of the road, obviously waiting for the trader and his companions.

“Good day.” Nicolas greeted when his group had reached the waiting men.

“Good day to you as well, friend.” A bearded man, apparently the leader, returned the greeting. “We don’t see many people travel this road. What brings you here?”

“The damn bridge we were going to cross is no more, so we needed to find a new route.”

“It’s STILL not repaired? Well, it’s a good thing we don’t need it.”

“So, who are you and why are here?”

“My name is John and I am one of the owners of this here farm. Who might you be?”

“Oh, my apologies. My name is Nicolas and I am a trader.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you Nicolas. As you may have guessed this is an animal farm. It may seem out of place here in the forest, but the location has its advantages. The land was cheap and we used the trees we cut as wood material, so it didn’t cost that much. The cows and the pigs don’t seem to have a problem with their new homes as long as they are well fed. We too like the place – it is quiet and even with the bridge destroyed hardly anyone passes by, so we need to worry only about wild animals attacking us. But we have more than enough men to repel even the largest bear or pack of wolves.”

“And because the place is isolated and you all know each other you don’t need to worry about criminals, such as thieves, rapists and murderers, correct?”

“Yes, you are absolutely correct. Anyway, I have an offer for you. You and your men can spend the night here for free. In return you’ll help us defend the farm if necessary. I’m sure nothing will happen, but one can never be too careful.”

“Yes, that’s so true.” Nicolas looked at his men. “Any objections?” he got a collective “no”. “Very well, I accept your generous offer, John.”

“Excellent! Oh, I’m sure I don’t need to say this, but please don’t touch the women here unless they ask you to.”

“But of course.”

“Wonderful. Come on in, then.” Said John as he and his companions (who had remained quiet the entire time) led the way. As Nicolas and his men entered the farm he noticed several pretty women looking at his group. One of them was a redhead very similar to the one from his fantasy. Perhaps that fantasy would come true after all…
