You pivot and turn your shield towards the swing, Jotor’s sword batters against the shield.

The **** of the blow jars you. You grimace and throw out a kick, it lands flush on Jotor’s gut. You press forward, leaping and coming down with a powerful shield bash.

You shield bash Jotor in the head.

Jotor yelps in pain but continues his onslaught of attacks. You maneuver and block. Fending off all of the blows with ease. Jotor stops for a moment, taking a second to regain his breath. You step in.

Jotor tries to push you off. You spin and backfist him with your shield arm.

Jotor falls to the ground and lies flat. He splays his arms outwards and breaths out a sigh of relief. “I’ll be damned lad. You’re a helluva warrior. Who taught you to use the shield like that?” You try to reply but memories flood your mind. Drowned voices, and regiments on an ancient field. “I-I… don’t know.”

“You okay? I’m the one who got smashed in the head yknow?” Jotor gets up, injured and dazed, but attempting to console you. “I’m fine. I just got these odd memories.”

Jotor looks pained. “Ah. Echoes. I know them too well.”

“Echoes?”

“We demigods have powerful ancestral ties. To distant relatives, and to our past lives.”

“Past lives? That’s a lot to take in Jotor.” You say.

“Trust me, I feckin know.” He grins but there’s no humor in his eyes.

“Demigods have powerful souls, and we take part in the cycle of rebirth moreso than lesser souls, such as trees or birds.”

A nearby raven makes a loud “Kraa-kraa.”

“There’ll be things you remember, things you feel, that you have felt, that you have experienced. Your talent with the shield is just a precursor to whatever else your memories have in store for you.”

“Well this raises so many questions.”

Jotor laughs and claps you on the back. “C’mon. We’ll talk it over food.”
