Chapter 4

How do you proceed?
Blazing
Anxious to use your powers to take down a bad guy, you hastily strip off your outer shirt and shorts and step out of your sandals, leaving the clothes in a pile on the roof. You're a little self-conscious as you are practically naked in your tiny silver bikini, but you focus your powers and you burst into Flame, taking flight as your body is surrounded by an orange glow of fire. As you fly toward the dealer, he notices you, giving you a curious stare. You stop a few feet in front of him and hover a couple feet off the ground to try to look more intimidating.
"Your **** dealing days are done!" you shout, trying to sound confident. "Surrender now, or prepare to get--Hey!" The dealer takes off running before you can finish your not so clever pun. You fly after him as he ducks into an alley. Still a little new at this, you clip the corner and skid off the side of one of the buildings as you give chase. But you are unharmed and the alley appears to be a dead end.
"P-p-please don't hurt me!" the dealer cowers against the brick wall at the end of the alley. "I'm just a guy tryin ta make a livin. I aint never hurt no one." You cringe at his grammar.
"Selling **** hurts people. I'm going to have to take you in." A metallic groan from behind you draws your attention. You turn just in time to see a pipe burst from the wall you crashed into. A jet of water rushes toward you, hitting you square in the chest and splashing over your body. The **** knocks you out of the air as it douses your flames, sending you tumbling to the ground. With the pressure released, the water flow reduces to a trickle and you pick yourself up off the ground, soaked from head to toe. You wipe the blonde hair that's matted to your face away as you try to regroup.
"Nice tits, Fire Slut." The dealer's comment snaps you back to attention. Without the fire obscuring your body, he has a clear view. Even worse, the water knocked your top a little askew, exposing one of your rosy pink nipples. Horrified, you quickly adjust yourself and cover back up, but it's clear that without your flames, this guy isn't intimidated. In fact, emboldened by your lack of fire, he's now licking his lips and looks to be readying himself for an **** of his own. "Aww don't cover up. With an outfit like that, you know you want ol Derek here to show you a good time." He walks toward you, ready to pounce. You try to get your flames back up, but you're just too wet...and not in the good way. The only red glow coming over you is an embarrassed blush. He takes a hold of your shoulders as you back into a wall. "Don't worry, baby. You're going to like this almost as much as I am."
Thoughts run through your head as the man slides his fingers under the straps of your top. This is not what you signed up for. You are out here to help people, not be abused by some low-level thug. You are better than this. You are FLAME! Suddenly, your fire re-ignites, sending the stunned dealer tumbling to the ground, clutching his singed hands. He tries to scramble away, but you shoot out a wall of fire to trap him in.
"Wait! What if I gave you my supplier?" he frantically pleads. Hmm he's just a dealer, but if I can take out the boss, that might be the big win I'm looking for.
"I'm listening." You pause your approach.
"The warehouse three blocks down. Orange door. That's where I get my product." He lowers his guard. "So, we cool? I can go?" You consider his request.
Do you let him go?
Perils of a Novice Superheroine
A generic superheroing setting drenched with sex and scandal
Acropolis City, the center of super-human and caped crusader activity in this particular world - with its own dizzying highs and lows, high-tech skylines and slums standing in stark, four-color contrast, it provided everything that a costumed megalomaniac or masked vigilante could ask for. In fact, as is usually the case where colorful masked characters are the norm, it has become something of an institution by this point. But although the mere existence of costumed heroes and villains no longer shocks people, these people - who, by their very nature, thrive on attention - keep finding new ways to stand out from the crowd and attract the eye. This last goal tends to get a lot of emphasis in the most simple, sexualized way possible. For reasons that the world's most brilliant scientists have yet to explain, latent super-abilities seem to manifest more often in women than men by a ratio of 3 to 1 or more. This is true even when the superpower isn't "natural"; paranormal artifacts fall into their hands, esoteric martial arts schools never seem to have a male heir, the technological prototypes they test always seem to be the ones that are most easily used or abused for good and evil. Unfortunately, the glory days of the past where citizens were happy to see any old masked do-gooder show up are over - in recent years, Acropolis City has established a ranking system of heroes where those who get high marks from the citizens and resolve incidents are rewarded with corporate sponsorships and (most coveted of all) seats at the prestigious League of Propriety. Those who intimidate the populace, cause excessive collateral damage, or simply don't excite anyone, garnering low rankings, get 'asked' to move to less prestigious cities. Few superheroes want to get stuck battling clans of villainous hillbillies and corrupt small-town sheriffs for the rest of their careers, so they're always eager to please the influential citizens of Acropolis City (judges, eminent scientists, first responders, and of course the all-important reporters). On the other side of the law, a similar dynamic predominates; only the most glamorous and charismatic costumed ne'er-do-wells can make it in this town. And so, the novice superheroines just learning the ways of battling for justice and order, without any team to back them up, always end up patrolling the skeeviest, most undesirable slums of the city and taking on the most thankless rescues. As if that weren't bad enough, most of them feel obliged to dress in ways that get more outlandish and revealing with every passing year while they fight the good fight and/or feed their craving for attention, depending on how you see the 'cape life'. As if that weren't troublesome enough, the superhuman mutations that make so many of these heroes' careers possible also result in greatly increased sexual sensitivity, particularly in females. The adventures and misadventures that these spandex-clad lady crusaders get into are often too hot to print for the kind of comics that their young admirers would read. Messy mistakes will be made, but you don't want to disappoint your readers, do you? So let the League know what kind of superheroine you are, your chosen name, powers, and appearance, and they'll send you out on your first patrols. Good luck.
