Chapter 3 by DragonStar1 DragonStar1

Who else walks in?

Bella the cleric

Another female walked in. This one had dark hair and had some chain armor on her much like Janno's. Yet, she wore a religious necklace and had a mace tucked into her belt instead of a sword.

"Greetings, My name is Bella the cleric," the woman said. Janno noticed she was pretty also. Her dark brown hair was done slightly in curls and hair went down to her shoulders. "I've come looking to join up a new adventuring group?"

"I'm looking for new members, yes," Janno said quickly. "I was just speaking with Ariel the sorceress here when you came in." Janno thought his luck was changing if he got two applicants so close to each other.

Of course Ariel and Bella were sizing each other up in that uncomfortable way in which they could be rivals. Janno sighed at this. Maybe his luck wasn't changing. Both young women, for Bella seemed of similar age as Janno as well, could be considered beautiful and would be perfect examples of the blond vs. brunette argument that men have constantly argued over. Bella may have been slightly taller than Ariel and she was a bit more, for lack of a better word to come to Janno's mind, ample in certain parts.

Nonetheless, seeking to head off any discord, Janno spoke up, "Bella, what can you do? How can you help our would-be party?"

"I'm mostly involved in spells involving healing and wards," Bella responded. "I admit that I'm not much of a fighter though I do have a mace here for those occasions."

Ariel asked curtly, "I see you have your religous symbol. What God do you follow?"

"Lacella."

Janno blinked. The Goddess of Love and Mating? A peculiur choice, though Bella was certainly lovely enough to encourage people to follow that type of religion. Ariel also looked surprised.

The fighter quickly moved on. "Well, you two are the first two who have inquired. Ariel, though your spells are good, learn how to use them more properly when we do start adventuring."

Ariel clapped her hands. "You accepted me! Thank you! And I will follow your suggestions of course. Hopefully, we can move on past my first few spells."

"Ah," Bella said with smile. "I'm guessing that explains the scorch burns on the wall and soft trails of smoke rising from the bed." Ariel gave the cleric a brief glare at this.

Janno sighed. He briefly considered backing out, but it didn't make sense to send away one of the women or even both of them considering the lack of interest he was getting in forming a new party.

Instead, he pressed on. "Bella, as I found out in my last adventure, healing is always useful. If my previous group had some, I wouldn't have been the only one left. So I gladly invite you to join."

Bella nodded. "Good, so when do we start? Or do we need more members?"

Janno thought for a moment. "Let me see what is going around in the region and I'll get back to you both. I would like to add one or two more to increase our numbers before we set off. But, if there isn't enough interest in Woodhaven, then we'll travel to another town to inquire about possible comrades."

Ariel and Bella agreed to this and left the room, though Janno was certain they were regarding each other still. Janno went downstairs and found no new information of interest. The region was all quiet. Perhaps his new group should move to another town to seek fame and fortune.

As he settled in for night, Janno heard another knock on the door. He was surprised. Who could it be at this late hour, another adventurer?

Who's behind the door?
