Be punished

"Your husband has probably forgiven you, but you can't forgive yourself. Many people who feel guilty can't find closure unless they receive some form of punishment. Does this sound right to you?"

"It does! We never talked about it after the fight, and I didn't want to bring it up! But... what can I do?"

"I'd recommend having somebody punish you. It's generally less likely to work if you do it yourself, but that's also on the table, if you prefer."

"No, I want to do whatever is most effective." Yvonne was firm in this, she wouldn't let her embarrassment stop her from getting what she needed. "But who?"

Wendy nodded, having already been thinking about that. She hadn't known her patient long, but she could tell that behind the demure housewife was a very straightforward and willful woman.
