Awkwardness

Danielle turned to Amy. "How about we show your grandparents the photo of the deer you took?"

"Ohh. That sounds interesting." Kathy stated.

"It's in my room." Amy said.

The four head off to Amy's room, where the print Dani had gifted her was hanging. Both Glenn and Kathy gazed at the picture with amazement before Kathy said "Did you really take that Amy?"

"Yeah." Amy smiled with a sense of pride.

"How did you get so close?"

"Well it kind of approached us. I got pretty lucky."

"Still, you would've had to hold the camera steady."

"True."

"Do you do photography professionally Dani?" Glenn asked.

"Well it's more of a hobby, but I'd like to expand it into a career."

"So what do you do?" Kathy asked.

"Actually I'm not working as of right now. Used to work at the bank, but I've been in need of a change."

"Ah." Kathy nodded as if she didn't know what to say next. Dani's previous job had made her accustomed to the apprehensive look of Kathy's face.

"So what about you two?"

"Happily retired."

"Happily's an understatement." Glenn chuckled, in which Dani joined in.

"I can appreciate that." She said.

"So do you live in Avonwick?" Kathy asked.

"I have a house in Avonwick, but I've been living here for the last month."

"Oh... okay." Kathy's face shuffled with mixed emotions. "Sorry, I'm just a bit surprised."

"It's okay. I'm sure it's not what you expected to come back to after your trip." Dani laughed for a second, in spite of the impression Kathy's anxiousness gave her. An awkward silence follows until Dani breaks it by saying "I might go check on Spencer."

"Sure."

After leaving the room, Dani took a deep breath. She moved fast, doing her best to put distance between herself and the awkward situation. In the kitchen, she found Spencer cutting up vegetables. He looked up to her and asked "You good?"

"Yeah. Just wanted to see how you're doing?" She flashed a fake smile.

"Good. Yeah."

"Cool."
