At The Movies

With tickets purchased, popcorn and soda bought, the couple look for seats in the theater. It is a Friday, and although the movie is not packed, it does, nonetheless, have a sizable audience. Patricia watches with growing annoyance as Philip scans the rows. She knows what he is looking for and why. Finally, she tugs on the sleeve of his windbreaker and gestures with her head towards a row.

"I was looking for, uh, seats a little less crowded," he tells her.

"These will be fine," she assures him. Then, rising up on her tip-toes, she whispers in his ear. "You can put your jacket over your lap."

So the two crab-step down the row to the empty seats Patricia has selected. There is another couple on Philip's left, but the seat next to Patrica is empty. They settle into their seats, muching popcorn and chatting in whispers until the lights dim. Then they sit back, Philip places his right arm around Patricia's shoulders, and she nestles up against his side. Before the first "coming attractions" is half-way through, he is kissing her.
