Chapter 19 by OppositeOfMiddle OppositeOfMiddle

When did we see each other next?

At Carol and Kyle’s wedding

So Kyle and Carol finally got married. Their on and off again relationship, finally stuck at ‘on again’. I was invited to the wedding and reception. It was out on the east coast in north New Jersey just outside of the city. I m flew in that morning and left the next morning. I didn’t have enough money for an extended stay.

I was single. This was a few months before I met Monica. Ross and Joey were no longer my roommates. They had moved away and got on with their own lives. To save money, I found a weird guy on Craigslist and was renting a room in his 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment. Needless to say I was really excited to get away from him for a day.

So I landed it NYC, and it took forever and a ton of cash to get to where the wedding was. Maybe I should’ve flown into Newark. I don’t freaking know. But I missed the ceremony, and the reception wasn’t until the evening.

I checked into the hotel the reception was at. I dropped my bag into my room and got changed. I found out that there was a group of people drinking at a bar across the street from the hotel. I figured I’d know less than five people at Carol and Kyle’s wedding. I decided I might as well have a few drinks and get familiar with the people.

I walked into the bar and looked around, trying to decide who was the group who knew Carol and Kyle. Luckily at that time of day there wasn’t too many to choose from. There was a group in a corner booth that was pretty loud. There was a tall slim redhead standing outside the booth and leaning on the side.

I could recognize Jess anywhere. Her looks had barely changed—only growing more beautiful with age. She wore a short dress that really showed off her legs. She was wearing heels so she was even taller than normal. Her bright natural red hair was still long and wild. A flush of emotion flowed through me when I saw her. I wanted her to be here, but I hadn’t wanted to get my hopes up.

I walked up to the booth. I didn’t recognize anyone else at the table. Sadly it wasn’t a reunion of our last booze-filled night at camp. Jess turned and saw me. She immediately pulled me into a hug, “Oh my god, Chandler!” It felt so good to be hugged by her. She introduced me to the group. Most were people who had worked at the same camp years after I had left.

Then a man walked up and put his arm around Jess. She said, “Oh and this is my fiancée Brad.” I finally noticed the ring on her finger. I felt like such a fool. How did I not know? I shook his hand. Then I went to the bar and got my first drink. I was hoping the reception had an open bar, because I didn’t have much to spend.

I caught up with Jess. She told me how she met Brad. I didn’t really care. I asked about Meg and how she was. Because of her fiancée, I didn’t want to latch on to Jess even though she was the only one I knew. I talked to some of the other people, found out where they were from and talked about camp and all that.

Finally it was time for the reception, we all went over to the hotel. Thank god, there was an open bar. I quickly got some drinks in me during the cocktail hour. I started mingling with Carol’s cousins. I had met them before so with a few drinks in me, it was easy to flirt with them.

One of her cousins was about my age. Her name was Lauren. She was short with dirty blonde hair. She had a nose ring and was always stepping outside to smoke a cigarette. But she had tremendously big tits, and her dress graciously showed them off. She was a little too trashy for me. But if at the end of the night, and I was drunk and she was willing, I would definitely give it to her.

I also flirted with Carol’s other cousin, Andrea. She was six years younger than me, just a week away from being able to legally drink. The bartenders were strict with carding, so I did her a favor and brought her over drinks. She looked more like Carol than Lauren did. She had long straight brown hair, a big rack and resting bitch face. I might feel a little guilty fucking her but I would enjoy it so much.

Cocktail hour was over and they had everyone go to their assigned tables. I was at the camp table. Jess and Brad were already seated. Jess patted her hand on an empty chair next to her. “You’re right next to me Chandler.” I was so happy I brought a full drink with me to the table.

Carol and Kyle made their entrance into the reception. Carol was obviously wearing a wedding dress. She had put on quite a bit of weight since I last saw her. But that just meant her boobs were even bigger and her dress showed them off. Kyle was wearing a tux and glasses, showing how he had matured.

We ate dinner. As we were eating, Carol and Kyle made their rounds and then greeted our table. I stood up and hugged Carol then Kyle. I was there when they first hooked up: when they left me in a room alone watching tv so they could go make out in the kitchen. I had carried drunk Carol when she was crying over Kyle because he had ignored her at a party. There was a lot of history between the three of us. I apologized profusely for missing their ceremony.

By the time the dancing got started, I was drunk and feeling it. I was the epitome of ‘dance like no one is watching.’ I had a blast. I got dances in with Carol and then her cousins Lauren and Andrea. I danced with everyone: aunts, grandmas, moms. I was probably just an annoying drunk guy, but I like to think that no one really noticed me.

I went outside to cool down. I was drenched in sweat. Lauren was already outside smoking a cigarette. She saw me and said, “Holy fuck dude. You’re wild. You got some moves out on the dance floor.”

I drunkly said, “Oh you haven’t seen my best moves yet. I save those for the bedroom.”

Lauren said, “Oh is that right? What room are you staying in?” I told her 314. “Maybe I’ll see you there. Make sure you’re awake to hear my knock.” She winked them put out her cigarette.

I knew she was just fucking with me. But what if she wasn’t. She was basically forcing me to stay up just in case. I saved that worry for later and went back in and got another drink. Before I got in line, Andrea came up to me and asked me to get her another.

I said, “I’m going to have to start asking for payment soon.”

She looked up at me with her hazel eyes and said, “What kind of payment would you like?” She pouted her bottom lip out. “Unfortunately I’m just a poor college student.”

Oh fuck. The things I wanted to do to her. I told her, “Why don’t you think on it, and you can let me know by the end of the night? I fly out tomorrow morning so it’ll have to be before then.”

Once she had her drink, she darted off. The reception was really dying down but I stayed and kept it going. I was hoping to get a dance with Jess but she purposely avoided me on the dance floor most of the night. Before she left with Brad, she came up and hugged me. She said, “It was so good seeing you again Chandler.”

During the hug, I whispered in her ear, “Room 314.” Then she pulled away and left. It was finally the last song. We danced as a big group in the middle of the room. Everyone was sweating and out of breath.

Andrea came up to me smiling, “I think I have a way to pay you. But I’ll have to bring it to you later. What’s your room number?”

I told her 314. Everyone slumbered back to their rooms. It was so late. I actually had to leave in a few hours to catch my flight out. I decided on coffee and water and trying to stay up.

I made it back to my room and turned on the tv. I sat on the bed sipping my hot coffee. I heard a knock on the door.

Who was it?
