Assume something is in there, deal with it agressively.

The idea that something was in her weapons room was unsettling. She took a moment to go to the cockpit and grab that broken handrail she never bothered replacing.

She banged on the door a little, then pressed her ear to it. She heard just a bit of clicking and skittering.

She took a deep breath, giving her confirmation to the control panel, grabbing the pole with both hands as the door opened.

There was a moment's delay before something came out. She swung at it before even trying to take a good look. She managed to hit it, knocking it away. She was already preparing to hit it again as she bothered to notice what it looked like. It mainly seemed like a fuzzy deflated basketball with cartoonishly flailing spider legs. She swung at it again, landing a hit on one of the legs. The creature let out a course hiss, and seemed to flatten out onto the floor.

Serris continued to hit the strange creature, but it seemed like she was only banging on the floor and wall, even though she was sure she hit the thing. She noticed the leg she hit earlier was poking up from the wall as it passed her. The creature crawled onto a door and began to slip into what should be an airtight crease. She swung at the injured leg, and the creature seemed to inflate, with a bit of a crunching sound where it had started going into the door.

The creature flailed wildly, hanging from the door as it hissed incessantly. It's legs snapped off where it was jammed in the door as it was hit again, writhing in futility as Serris pounded it with the handrail until the only motion it exhibited was from her own strikes.

When Serris finally stopped long enough to realize it was probably dead, the fading adrenaline gave way to ligtheadedness. That was far too much stress and exertion after her long stay in the capsule.
