Ashley refuses

"No! The whole reason I accepted you was so that I wouldn't have to use my power!" She could feel Phoenix's annoyance.

"Fine then, make up some lie and tell it to her psychically, but if she doesn't fall for it, you're going to need to do something."

Ashley thought about how to phrase it, and then said over the link, "I think I sort of, I don't know, absorbed your knowledge of how to use telekinesis. I had the ability, sort of, I just couldn't apply my energy in that way, but now I think if I tried, I could do it."

Jean seemed to consider this. "Really? That would explain the strange feeling I had, and I suppose both of our powers are mental in nature." She felt Ashley's nervousness, but misunderstood. "People's mutations sometimes change, in response to growing older, or something they're exposed to, so it's not that strange."

"We should test it," Jean said. "We'll start with something small." She pulled a coin out of her purse. "Let's see, try moving this coin." she placed it on the small glass table.

"Hmph. My powers are wasted on something so small, let's lift something bigger, like the table."

The coin does seem small, but Ashley wondered if she should really show her how strong she was, or if that might make her suspicious, or just impress her.
