Chapter 5
by zaick
How does Arianna deal with the dog?
Arianna runs
Arianna did not want to take a chance with snapping teeth. She knew the butterfly was there, and maybe the dog would be distracted enough to leave her alone for a while. She took off behind her, hearing a single bark. She heard a tear. Did the dog get her? She looked back as she stumbled forward.
She was half outside of the bushes now. There was a far off pair of joggers moving away from her to her left, and to her right, a man looking around the bushes. The dogs owner, perhaps. She wanted to move forward and straighten herself out, but to no avail. There was a growl. She saw that her already ripped sundress was caught in a dozen thorns behind her, and the rip on the side of her dress, the one that created all those loose threads to get caught, now reached all the way up to her armpit to the last hem it had to stop it. She tried to pull it to get it loose and tie it closed - anything, but the dog was right there, and it had something in its mouth.
She was unsure what it was at first, despite it behind right beside her in the ripped carnage of her dress' threads. Then she saw - it was her slip!
She heard someone call a dog. That man. She tried to get help, but then felt herself be pulled again. The dog was backing toward the man, back through the bushes. She tried to grab at the dog's mouth, but the dog snapped at her fingers and went back to the slip, pulling at it again. It was not strong - it was small, after all, but still, she was afraid.
She thought of getting the man's help, but felt a change to the pull. She moved forward a little, and saw the dog beginning to back away, carrying the slip with it. She felt her shoulders. The straps! One had already broken, and the tie did not keep! The other strap snapped off! She tried to grab for the dog as it went, but was still rather tangled in her sundress.
She stepped out of the bushes without thinking. Her left side was to the man looking for the dog. He looked to her and saw a woman whose left strap was broken, her dress flowing softly in the wind. There were threads on the other side of her, as if it was ripped.
Arianna grabbed the strap initially, feeling it had come loose again. Instead of fixing it, however, she realized her right side was incredibly exposed. Torn like a triangle with many fraying threads, underneath her sundress she was naked aside from the pair of underwear. Her right leg, her ribs, all the way to the hint of the side of her chest were exposed. She held it together.
She noticed the man was staring at her. She wanted to fix her broken strap - it was folded down enough to show an inch or so under her collarbone. Her right side, though, was much more pressing an issue.
Going home away from the creep was a good idea in her mind, and the park would only get busier. Still, though, she wanted her slip back, damaged or not, and she knew where that monarch was. She could confront the man and his dog and go back for the monarch.
How brave does Arianna feel?

Butterflies
Exploring a park, trying to keep clothes - the normal
It is a hot, humid day in a sprawling city beside a river. Arianna is a butterfly farmer who sells her specimen to the zoo. She is in her late twenties, tall, and strong. Her job requires a good bit of walking, exploring, and keeping up gardens. She is currently looking for a monarch in a city park, not knowing how bad her day is about to get.
