Chapter 4 by zaick zaick

What's next?

Arianna backs away from the coccoon

Arianna moves back from the area. She can always return - though she desperately wants to see the butterfly. Her eyes do not leave her goal, and she moves only backward. She wanted to be safe. The garden was next to a forest - all sorts of things could be in the bushes. If she knew what it was, too, without scaring the newborn butterfly, she could figure out what to do...

The sharp pushes prickle at her back, but she does not care. She needs to keep an eye forward. She watches as the bushes of whatever culprit made her move begin to shake more, then notices after some four or five feet moving backwards she can not move further.

The ripped side of her dress did her no favors. As she moved backward, her dress was pierced and tangled all along the way to the point where it was pulling up to her armpit. She tried to look around to make sure no one could see, but decided it was fine - these bushes were almost as tall as her chest, and she was a few feet deep in them.

With searching arms, she tried to see how bad she was stuck. She felt her sundress was pulled up nearly all the way. She tried to move forward but felt she was still stuck, this time from her slip. With her slip caught pulling her back and her sundress pulling her forward, she could not move much at all.

And she saw the butterfly! It would leave soon! The bushes where she was had not moved in a while - she had to make her decision! Moving forward now would be faster, but it would tear up her slip (and likely still damage her dress). She could take time to remove her slip to retrieve and then move forward, but minutes had passed since the birth - the butterfly would not stay docile for long, especially with all this movement.

What does Arianna decide?
