Ariana's new dress

When you arrive home, your wife isn't back yet. Not unusual, so you start making dinner while you wait for her to arrive home. Not long afterwards Ariana arrives home, but it surprises you to see that she's carrying a large dress bag over her shoulder. It looks like she bought a new dress for Friday, but you can't see it through the bag.

"Where did you get that?" you ask immediately.

"I bought it," she tells you coolly. "I decided that I needed a new dress for Chez Mignon. None of my old dresses were quite nice enough."

You stand with your mouth wide open. You don't care that she bought herself some new clothes. She does that all the time. But usually with her own money, whenever she had a little bit extra at the end of the month to spare. But a dress to match the elegance and extravagance of Chez Mignon sounds costly, and for that she would have to dip into the budget.

"Was it expensive?" you fire off another question.

"Yep, but I used the household budget to buy it." She stops and looks at you with an icy stare, as if daring you to challenge her. "Is that a problem?"

It really is a problem for her to spend so much money on herself from the household funds. But you know if you press the issue it's going to turn into another argument, and you're not sure you want to fight with her the whole week before you send her off on a date with your best friend. Do you roll over and take it? Or fight her every step of the way?
