Apologize

"Agent Jess, wait!"

You dash forward to catch the door from closing - but Jess listened and was already turning around in the doorway. She looks at you expectently.

"Jess, you're right. I'm sorry for complaining. I don't want you to think I regret what I did. Like you said, it's more than worth it."

She exhales sharply, "that's great and all, but how am I supposed to know you aren't just saying that to get on my good side? I've met plenty of people like you, who'll say anything to please a person, and who never has any morals or convictions of their own."

You take a moment to digest that. But you can't think of anything before she sighs and continues.

"Why did you complain in the first place?"

You take a moment to look inward. You know that only an honest answer will do.
