Who are you?
Anna, a young female rookie warrior looking for a cure
Your name is Anna - a village girl and self-taught warrior. You live together with your mother and sisters. Your home is in a village far away from the front lines, so the only real impact the war has had on you is that your father and brother - along with nearly all other men in the village - have been **** to join the army. The first couple of years you kept worrying that your father or brother - or gods forbid both - might die, but the dreaded news never arrived and after the first two years you stopped worrying. Ever since then things have been going relatively well for your family...
One month ago things changed. It all started with a sudden rain that surprised everyone in the village. You, your mother and your older sister all got drenched. Your younger sister was lucky enough to be at home and so avoided the unwanted bath. Normally that would be the end of things - but not this time. Following the sudden rain your mother fell ill. Before the war that would have been a minor annoyance at best - but now things are different. All the best healers are at the front lines, as are the best cures. The only healer left in the village lacks the skill to cure your mother. The best he can do is prevent her condition from worsening. You have **** but to either look for a better healer, or pay someone to deliver a cure to your village. Both options are too expensive for a village girl like you, so you are **** to look for money. Alas, you have only two choices if you want to earn money quickly: Prostitution and fighting at the Arena of Illusions.
You are still a virgin and you would rather keep it that way, so decide to try the Arena. Before the war a rookie like you would get laughed at, but now rookies are all that's left, so you will be allowed to compete. Your reward will depend on how well you do before you get eliminated, so as long as you are not reckless you should be able to earn enough money for a healer or at least a cure.
The trip to the Arena proves uneventful, much to your relief. Signing up to fight there takes less then an hour, and before you know it you are walking along a dimly lit corridor towards an wooden door. Behind that door is your first challenge - what ever that might be. You are wearing a suit of leather armor and are holding a steel longsword in one hand. You also have a single healing potion (sadly not the kind that could heal your mother). Both the sword and the armor once belonged to your great-granfather while the potion is a gift from the village healer. It's not much, but you hope it will be enough.
As you slowly approach the wooden door you take a few deep breaths to calm down and review everything you know about the Arena. Nearly everything here is an illusion - hence the name "Arena of Illusions". Unfortunately that includes any money or equipment you might find. Still, even if you can't take them with you when you leave you should take anything you find - you've heard that some of the illusionary monsters you can encounter at the Arena can be bribed to let you proceed without a fight...
You were told that the reward you will receive depends on your performance before you get eliminated - the more creative solutions to the encounters will please the crowd more and get you more money at the end...
Fianlly you reach the wooden doors. Without any hesitation you open them...
What aways behind the doors?
The Arena of Illusions
A rookie's struggles
