An embarrassing question

The possibilities rattled around my mind. I could feel my horizons expanding before me.

...But I had to be sure.

As we continued to play, I watched Jess out of the side of my eye. I was trying to come up with an outrageous question that wouldn't backfire if my fantasy was wrong. Jess managed to win again effortlessly, but a with question sparking in my mind I placed the controller down beside me.

"Hey- uhh... Jess?", I asked - trying to conceal the shake in my voice.

The girl turned toward me with a brow raised an gestured briefly for me to continue.

"H-how about a fun game before our next match?", I asked. "Could you tell me the most embarrassing secret you know of Ron's, please?"

My eyes darted over to Ron. He seemed unbothered. They darted back to see Jess give a giggle and begin to speak.

"That'd probably be the story of how we met.", Jess began. "He hired me online to take his virginity. He tried to play the dorky white knight card, but he was pretty funny when he did. We kinda hit it off."

My jaw dropped. It took her a moment, but all of a sudden Jess blushed bright red and covered her face with a couch pillow. Ron appeared totally blaise.

"You're a prostitute?", I found myself yelping, bewildered.

"Yes- but- well-", Jess stammered. "It's not supposed to be a known thing! I don't know why I told you!"

Jess had appeared to recede into a ball beneath the pillow.

It suddenly occurred to me that the pair seemed to have an awful lot of money for a pair of students. Jess was studying Law, while Ron: Art History. Their relationship had always seemed so normal. The apparently-false story of their meeting was that they did so at a student Halloween party.

"Jess, please be one hundred percent honest with me...", I began.

If Jess had been able to see over her pillow, she would have seen a glimmer of curiosity and lust in my eyes.
