Chapter 5

Where do you end up?
An alien field
The next few minutes are tense, as the Odyssey begins listing to one side and rapidly descending toward the planet below. For all the trouble you've been through, there is still no guarantee of your safety. Most of the drag fins and landing gear were in the tail section, so it will be nothing short of a miracle if the Captain and pilot can slow the Odyssey enough to avoid being obliterated against the ground below. With each second, annihilation seems more and more likely, as the Odyssey continues to pick up speed rather than slow. As you look around, the nine survivors in the shuttle grab hands, resolutely accepting their fate, when you hear the panicked voice of Captain Reyes once again.
"IF ANY OF YOU ARE STILL ALIVE, GET READY TO HOLD YOUR BREATH. WE'RE SHUTTING DOWN LIFE SUPPORT AND COMMUNICATIONS TO REROUTE THE LAST OF THE POWER TO THE STABILIZERS. IT'S THE ONLY CHANCE WE'VE GOT TO CHANGE THE ANGLE OF IMPACT ENOUGH TO SURVIVE. AS SUCH, THIS IS OUR LAST COMMUNICATION. IT'S BEEN AN HONOR. MAY GOD BE WITH US ALL."
You hear the speaker click silent, and immediately feel the air grow thin and the artificial gravity release. Seconds after, the stabilizers kick in at full power. The nose of the ship rises sharply for a half a second, then smashes into the planet's surface. The impact should have killed all of you, but as you look around in disbelief, it's clear that the Captain's last second gambit paid off. All nine of you are alive and well within the emergency shuttle. The shuttle itself is pretty much ruined. The name shuttle was rather generous to begin with, as the craft was designed to be little more than a protective cocoon in the event of a crash, and would only be flown to move supplies on the surface should the mission succeed. As things stand, you are thankful that it succeeded at least in the first task.
You and the other passengers rush out of the craft and move immediately toward the bridge. It is extremely unlikely that either the Captain or pilot survived, but if there is even the slightest chance, you owe it to them to rescue them in return for saving your life. The wreckage is awful, and the closer you get, the more your hopes die in your chest. At last, one of the other survivors, a tall, muscular black guy you remember as Mike Johnson, manages to clear some debris blocking the entrance to the bridge. As you suspected, the Captain is dead, crushed under what must be a literal ton of twisted metal. It seems that your pilot, Lieutenant Cho, is dead as well, when suddenly he groans. You carefully move him out of the wreckage, in case it begins to collapse. Thankfully, the med-bay was in the front half of the ship, not far from the bridge. Hannah Lee, a short, thin asian girl, retrieves what medical supplies are salvageable in an attempt to save Lt. Cho.
When she arrives, her face is crestfallen. In her hands she has only a small amount of supplies. Scarcely enough to treat more than a few people, and given the nature of the Lieutenant's injuries, it will take everything you have to treat him. A young redhead named Vanessa Baker looks at her, incredulously.
"Is that all the medicine we have?!"
Hannah nods solemnly. Arguments erupt within the group over how to proceed. On one hand, the Lieutenant saved all of your lives with his piloting, and you have a chance to return the favor with the medicine. On the other hand, none of you have medical training, and there is a decent chance that he will still die even if you use the medicine. The group quickly splits in half. Hannah, Will, Mike, and a blonde who you learn is named Alyssa White all are in favor of treating your wounded comrade. Vanessa and the others, an athletic black girl named Jacqueline, a thin, lanky white kid named Ryan, and an asian named Alex who apparently is the brother of Hannah, are against treatment. Alex looks to you.
"Well, it's four to four, and if we don't decide quick he's going to die regardless. You're the tie-breaker. What's it gonna be?"
Well, what's it gonna be?
Odyssey Down
Crash Landing
The ship carrying you crashes without warning on an alien planet. You and a small group of survivors must pull together to survive and find out what happened to your ship.
