Chapter 3 by ARKangello ARKangello

But Who Are You?

An Ex-MBI Employee (Sekirei)

Sato fingered the little crystal thing he had swiped when he left MBI. It was a weird little elongated diamond with a strange orb somehow trapped inside it, and a 3 engraved on the side. He'd already been parting on bad terms, and he knew the thing was supposed to be important to the Sekirei Plan, so he'd thought to swipe it on his way out. He'd almost been caught when he'd been leaving and smuggling the thing out, but he'd hastily written his name on the thing with a pen and the moment the security guard had seen it he'd just handed it back to him with barely a word.

Now if only he could figure out what the blasted thing was supposed to be for. He knew it was important for the later stages of the Plan, and up until now it and the other ones had all been used at various stages of the tuning process for the Sekirei, so it had to have some sort of effect on them. But he had no clue how it worked. While he had been part of the teams of tuners, the use of these Jinki things had been restricted to the heads of each team. The only time someone other than them had ever had a go with the things, it had resulted in the whole Number 7 scenario.

He shoved the thing back into his pocket and kept on marching through the streets of Shinto Teito. He missed when it was called Tokyo, but what can you do when your government decides it is a good idea to sell a fucking city to a corporation?

Right now he could probably get away with just bugging out and leaving the whole thing behind him, but he'd have to be fast. Once someone important figured out he had the Jinki they'd send people after him, so if he wanted to get out of the city it would have to be now. Hanging around would do him no good, since the Sekirei Plan was already beginning to get underway and the city was soon going to be completely quarantined till it ended.

On the other hand.... MBI wouldn't touch him if he actually participated. The Jinki were supposed to be given out to Ashikabi at some later stage, he knew that much. If he got himself a Sekirei of his own, then they might just decide to look the other way and let him keep it without a problem. Oh, and that way he'd get access to the MBI account card they all had. Basically unlimited money at his disposal.

It was a simple plan, but an appealing one. Which just left the question of where to start? He needed to find an unwinged Sekirei, and manage to snag her for himself before someone else did. Almost immediately a light began to emit from his pocket. "Seriously?" He moaned as his hand returned to his pocket and pulled out the Jinki again. "I put you away, and that is the exact moment you decide to fucking do something?"

The crystal was glowing intermittently, and he felt it trying to shake a little in his hand. For some reason he loosened his grip, and it immediately began to spin in place like the needle of a compass before pointing in one set direction and beginning to slowly throb. "Huh." He mused aloud, unsure what to make of this. He slowly moved his hand around, moving it left and right, up and down. No matter what he did it shifted in his hand to keep pointing in the same direction.

Well he had already decided to stick around in the city for now, so he might as well follow along.

It took him almost an hour to find where the Jinki was trying to point him, and he'd crossed a large segment of the city to get there. But finally he ended up standing in the middle of the street, looking at a house. He'd walked past it at first and then the Jinki compass had pointed him back. He did a lap of the house just to make sure. This was definitely where it wanted him.

The problem was that he recognised the place. The Izumo Inn. This was a place where a number of powerful Sekirei were known to be in residence, which might hopefully explain why the Jinki had decided to bring him here. But it was also the home of the Hannya of the North. He didn't know much about her, information was sparse even when you had access to MBI's extensive database. But what he did know was that MBI had a wide sweeping 'Do Not Disturb' order on the woman. They would rather leave her in peace to do whatever she wanted over doing literally anything that might earn her ire.

It was the perfect place.

"Thanks little guy." He said to the Jinki, and it pulsed with light once before going as dull and inert as it had been when he'd taken it from the MBI labs. He tucked it away in his pocket and headed up the path to the door, before knocking on the door. It was a few moments before a woman with purple hair opened the door, and looked at him with curious eyes. "Hey. I'm looking for a place to stay. Got any rooms?"

"There are. Please come inside and we can speak more." She stepped to the side and raised her arm to indicate inside. He gave her a smile and stepped inside.
