Amy calls a plumber

Amy tells Mark that she will call a plumber and see if they can work something out. She finds a plumber online that will give free estimates, so she decides to set up an appointment.

The next day, while Mark is out job searching, the plumber stops by to take a look at the problem. He opens up the doors below the sink, kneels down and shines his flashlight in. "Looks like the whole garbage disposal is shot, and there is a crack in the pipe just below it. I can replace them both. It's about a 2 hour job, plus parts...so about $450" he tells her.

"Is that the cheapest? Maybe if we bought the parts my husband could put it in?" she asked him.

You could, but the majority of the cost is in the parts. I could probably do it in only an hour, but it will still be over $300."

"I have to have it done, somehow. Can you take payments? Or can I have you do it, and then bill me later for it?"

"Unfortunately, we don't do payments without at least half down, and we don't do credit or billing."

"There has to be some way we can work something out. I really need this fixed but both my husband and I are out of work at the moment. Please, isn't there anything we could do?"
