Chapter 8 by Aradnor Aradnor

Does Aliénor escape your ambush, or is she ensnared by the brood?

Aliénor hacks her way to freedom!

Aliénor senses the danger a split-second too late. She glances upward, her face contorting in horror as your web finds its mark, coating the bounty hunter from head to toe in a strong, sticky resin. She struggles briefly against the webbing stuck to her arms before casting her spear aside in a panic. You sense your chance and launch yourself to the ground beside her as she fumbles urgently for the sword strapped at her belt. You land with a crash and bear your fangs in a wild shriek. Aliénor desperately slices at the bindings locking her in place and raises her weapon. You pounce on her, knocking her powerfully to the earth. You prepare to claim your prize...

Hiss! A searing pain erupts in your soft, exposed throat and you cry out in agony, clutching frantically with your front legs at the blade jammed in your monstrous gullet. Black, viscous blood gushes from the wound and you glare downwards in impotent rage. Aliénor holds your gaze as she dislodges her sword from your thorax before pushing herself away from your weakening frame. With one final twist, she breaks free of your grasp and emerges from underneath your dying body, letting you collapse under your own weight. You let out a last mangled screech as your vision fades. In front of you, Aliénor hacks viciously at her many pursuers, stabbing and slashing at the **** heads of your brothers and sisters. You see several several spiders fall as Aliénor dances deftly through the mass, raising and bringing down her blade in a wide arc. Viscera spurts in every direction and the agonised shouts of your fellows fill your ears as consciousness abandons you...

You are thrown back violently into your human body. Shocked, you shake your head angrily in an attempt to re-orient yourself. You cast a frustrated glance in the direction of your your seeing stone, but you hardly need to look at it to tell that the captain has escaped, such are the wails of the half-dead spiders that litter the corridor. You re-attune the colourless glass so that it no longer transmits sound, moodily scanning the aftermath of the slaughter. It would appear that Aliénor had even had time to retrieve her spear, for it is nowhere to be found. Bitterly disappointed, you turn your back on the gruesome scene and curse, the throbbing pulse beating in your head too uncomfortable to ignore.

You rub your temples and sit down in an alcove of the main chamber, still complaining to yourself. Although possession poses no physical risks to your person, the pain and surprise of **** remains all too real and all too unpleasant. Indeed, this time was all the worse for the lingering nature of the wound that killed you. Irritated, you lazily mutter a few common healing spells and the room is bathed in a cool, green light as waves of soothing energy wash over you. You allow yourself a relieved sigh and spend several minutes focusing on reducing the headache pounding through your skull. Eventually, you convince yourself to stand up again, and you gaze back into the blackness of the looking glass. You pass your eyes over the map of the labyrinth, keen to exact retribution, and find the nearest yellow dot, towards the eastern section of the maze. You hope that it is Aliénor. More than one monster prowls the area. Eager to escape the residual soreness plaguing your mortal self, you swipe your right hand across the surface of the mirror in a swift motion and summon images of your potential hosts.

Which being materialises in front of you?
