Chapter 3
by protoborg
Are you a teen or are you an adult?
Adult
You finish getting ready for work and leave your house. On the way to work, you see a cell phone store. You have been meaning to get a replacement Bluetooth device as your old one has kind of crapped out on you. You decide, since you have plenty of time to get to work, that you will stop and get a new Bluetooth device today. You pull your car into the parking lot and get out. You lock the car and head toward the front door of the store.
A little bell tinkles as the door opens allowing you entrance to the store. It is a quaint little store. Items are on display along the walls and in the center space on small islands. Few customers are in the store at this hour, but those who are have the attention of the employees. An unoccupied employee approaches you with a fake smile plastered on his face. You notice and hope he will be able to genuinely help you.
"Welcome, sir. How may I help you today?"
"I am looking for a Bluetooth device and I don't have much time as I am headed to work."
"What type of phone do you have, sir?"
"Please call me John. I hate being called 'sir'." You hold up your phone. "You have anything that will work with this?"
"That IS a very old phone, but I think we might have something that will work. If you will follow me, I think we can accommodate you, John."
The salesman leads you towards the back of the store. He walks around behind the counter and begins rummaging through the items contained therein. After a few minutes, he stands up and seems to be thinking. He turns to you.
"I think I am going to have to look in the store room. Please give me a few minutes."
"No problem."
The salesman heads into the back room. You look around the store idly biding your time waiting for him to return. A few minutes later, the salesmen tapes you on the shoulder.
"John? I think I found something that might work. It is the only one we have, but it is also the only device that will work with you phone considering how old it is."
You turn at his touch and look at the device he has in his hand. It appears to be some sort of collar or tight necklace. It kind of reminds you of those things the military uses to communicate with having to use their hands. You think there has to be something better than this strange device, but you don't have time to waste if you don't want to be late to work. You begrudgingly accept the device from the overzealous salesman. You turn to head up to the register to pay when the salesman stops you by putting his hand on your shoulder.
"John, my boss has been riding my ass all month to get rid of that thing. I think he would be happy it is no longer in inventory. Just take it with my compliments. You need not worry about paying for it."
"You sure about that?" You eye the salesman suspiciously.
"I assure you no one will ever know." He is pushing you out the door at this point. You are late to work and don't really feel like arguing with him. Plus, you no longer really remember why you were arguing with him in the first place.
"Alright, my friend. Thank you."
"No problem. I hope it works well for you."
You think he might have winked at you, but it must have just been reflection from the sun. You get in your car and head off to work. As you drive away, you fail to notice the store vanish into thin air. You are amazed at how lucky it was that a store was open at that time of day that just so happened to have a Bluetooth device that works with your old-as-dirt phone. You wonder why they still had such a device in stock.
What is your sexual orientation?
