Chapter 3 by Nathaniel Keam Nathaniel Keam

Does Jenny Realise Her Error?

Absolutely Not

As Jenny walked along the concrete path, flanked by some rundown houses and a green field, her fists clenched involuntarily. A pair of girls at the other end of the path moved towards her, and they looked nasty. As they drew closer she had thoughts of turning and retracing her steps. Two other girls were already walking that way. Four of them in total.

They almost looked like clones; black leggings and short, tight tops in white, blue, black, and red. Covered in clownish levels of make-up and fake tan, they stared directly at her. She knew she was in trouble, but she continued walking in the vain hope they weren’t interested.

“Hey, you,” the girl in red shouted.

Jenny attempted to keep walking.

“We’re talking to you, whore.”

Another of the girls, dressed in black, stepped forward and blocked her path.

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.” the group of four mimicked, with mocking giggles.

“Where do think you’re going with that crappy hair? Why’s there lots of blue in it, did someone spill something?” laughed the girl in white.

“No.” Jenny replied keeping her dyed blue hair down and smoothing down her short leopard print skirt.

“Well why you dressed like some little freak?” the girl in red snapped.

She grabbed hold of Jenny’s blue hair and threw her back into the group behind.

“Oh, look, she just tried to hit you. She must think she’s pretty tough.”

“No.”

“What’s with these stupid clothes anyway?” the girl in blue grabbed the shoulder of her light-grey hoodie.

“Probably from that art place.”

“You from that art place, freak?” the girl in blue screamed in her face.

“Yeah.”

The girl in black sprang forward and buried her fist into her stomach.

Jenny coughed and spluttered as the air was driven out of her. She dropped to one knee and hugged her aching midsection.

“Look at how she’s dressed. Who’s she supposed to be kidding?”

“No idea. And look at how thin she is. Barely any tan either. She’s pretty ugly too,” said the girl in black.

The girls gathered around her like a crowd of vultures. She knew things were about to get ugly.
