Chapter 15 by poison ink poison ink

What happens next?

A week of misery

That night, I felt miserable, but I gave Hailey her space and didn't try to text her. I deleted Didi's pictures from my phone (after I'd transferred them to a secret folder on my computer) and sent her a text back, asking her to please not send me anymore pictures because I had a girlfriend I was trying to keep.

The next day I saw Hailey at school, but she seemed to dodge me anytime I tried to get close. At lunch time, I sat at our usual table, with some mutual friends, but she never showed up for the seat I saved for her. It wasn't til the lunch hour was half over that I spotted her sitting with David an his friends at their table. She looked like she was only picking at her food and I caught her glancing my way a couple of times. I sent her a text asking if we could meet after school so I could explain everything to her, but she never responded. She hadn't blocked me on any of her social media accounts, so I could still see her posts, but I didn't try do anything stupid by posting for her. I didn't want to screw up what little bit of contact that I still had with her.

The rest of the week continued in much the same way, with me texting her and her giving me the cold shoulder, both at school and on her phone. The only difference that I noticed was that each day, she seemed to be smiling more when I saw her, and by Friday was laughing and smiling as I watched her eat her lunch at the jock's table.

Meanwhile, the longer the week went on, the more miserable I felt and the more I worried that Hailey was never going to answer my texts. I spent every night looking at photos of her and photos of us together, then either crying or jacking off in loneliness. My friends told me not to give up hope, and that Hailey would talk to eventually, but I knew that she was out of my league now and that she'd probably finally realized it.

I had barely eaten any of my food by the end of lunch on Friday, just staring at Hailey as she laughed smiled at the other table, when my phone buzzed in my pocket. Taking it out, I saw that she had sent me a text! I looked across the room to her and she smiled at me, then nodded to me, signalling for me to read her message.

Hailey: I'm ready to talk. Come to my house at 7.

It didn't say much, but it was more than enough for me. I looked over to her and nodded excitedly.

Sam: I'll be there! I followed it with a heart emoji.

She didn't respond back, but she didn't have to. I began thinking of what I wanted to say to her when I finally got to see her again, and rehearsed it it my mind so it would be perfect.
