Chapter 6
by Vain
Was that all though? What else could possibly go wrong on a day like this...?
A suspicious stranger in the garden
Eventually, after a quick lunch which was grudgingly prepared by his oldest daughter, Jack found himself wandering out front of his house for a while. The street outside was almost empty, even as it soon should be time for most of to the neighbors to come back home from their work or studies, but just as he turned to head back inside he happened to notice some kind of motion around the tall hedge surrounding his house.
Suddenly suspicious he carefully moved closer, until he was able to peek his head around the corner. He wasn't quite sure what to expect, but had his worst suspicions confirmed as he found someone crouching down, halfway into the hedge, and pointing a camera towards the back of Jack's house. From the size of the figure it was likely just a kid, even if their identity was hidden under a hooded jacket, and their equipment seemed a tad bit expensive for someone so young.
Their intentions were all too obvious however, no matter their age, and Jack was immediately infuriated by the thought of some creepy boy trying to steal away with illicit pictures of his daughters. Not that he wasn't surprised though, as the girls were definitively able to draw some attention, but it still didn't make the deed any more excusable.
"Hey!" Jack shouted as he managed to catch the intruder red handed, by sneaking up on them from behind, and quickly snatched the camera out of their hands while spinning them around by the shoulder. For a second he wasn't quite sure what to think though, as the kid was surprisingly cute for a boy, but still didn't dress or behave like any girl he'd met before. And considering what he'd supposed they were after, it was difficult for Jack to even imagine why a woman would make herself the trouble. "What the hell do you think you're up to, kid?!"
"Hey! My camera...!" The poor boy was obviously too shocked to understand his peril yet, as he tried to reach for his expensive 'toy', instead of working on a real good excuse as to what he was doing, sneaking around on somebody else's private property. The reasons were already given though, and Jack wasn't happy at all when he thought of what kind of pictures this little creep could have taken during the day.
"You can have it back when I've deleted everything that's in it!" He growled menacingly, while towering above the young intruder. Anyone else in that age would've probably pissed their pants already, but it seemed like the boy was still too surprised to understand, unless they had a lot more balls than their age or cute visage would suggest. "Now get the heck out of here, before I carry you back to your parents myself!"
"Oh, sure..." The boy finally managed to say something intelligible, but still didn't show any signs of fear as he glared right back into the older man's snarling face. He then turned on his heels and simply walked away, leaving Jack to stare at his back while struggling to find something more to say. Just as the kid reached the corner of the hedge he turned for a moment, to look back over his shoulder, and grumbled something that sounded just like: "Suit yourself then...!"
"Hey, what's that supposed to mean?!" Jack called out after him, but didn't bother to try and catch up as the kid was already out of sight for him. There was something strangely ominous about those words though, and Jack couldn't help but feel just a bit uneasy as he looked down to the costly, digital camera which had been left in his hands...
What should he do with it then? If he's bothered at all...?
Girls of Jack
One man's world has been turned upside down, but he may find hope in the most unexpected places.
A story which I hope to work on when I have the time for it. For now it's closed for others, but I'll gladly accept ideas and suggestions for how to improve or continue the story! I've now started adding conditions, which is how I planned it from the start. So far it's recommended to read without activating the play function, but please try it out if you want, and let me know if you find something odd about the scoring.
