A shopping trip

After the initial rush to plant, there is surprisingly little work to do on the encomienda. All that is required is the usual daily maintenance of the planted crops, which is something the Indians can do quite well without you. You decide to take this chance for a break and go into town. The ride into town goes quickly and smoothly. When you get back into town you're surprised by how different it feels. Everyone speaking Spanish, living in a city, wearing clothes?! You had almost forgotten that people do such things. It's actually quite a relief. You spend a little time in a tavern, having a bit to drink and chatting up the people. You haven't had much ability to talk with anybody but Diego, and once you leave the realm of the island he has little to say. You need to get the Indians on your settlement speaking Spanish, but you expect that to be a long and frustrating effort.

During one of your relaxed strolls, something catches your eye. You don't realize why at first, but the thing that lights your interest is a dress. Suddenly, you figure it out...that girl! You start to think that maybe she would like something like that, a fine dress in European style. If she did like it, maybe it would help bring her (and perhaps her people in general) into the fold of Spanish culture. But, you also do kinda...like her. It would be nice to see her happy, even if it cost some of your spare money.
