Chapter 10 by No.Eight No.Eight

What happens in the forest?

A meeting

You're not far from your destination now, only a further hour or two at a walk. You've managed to avoid the elves thus far, for which you are eternally grateful, for they often resent humans coming onto their land and kill them without questioning them first. But as you cross a clearing, you hear a noise before you and, putting your hand to the hilt of your sword, you spin to see someone behind you.

A girl stands there with an arrow nocked to her bow, and the arrow pointed in your direction. She has messy brown hair that falls to her shoulders and a very small frame, with small breasts, while her ears end in points that protrude from her hair. She's wearing a short dress that buttons up the front and only just covers her decently, and thigh-high boots.

Looking at you with vicious green eyes, she says, "Oh look what I've found! A human! Hmm, what shall I do with you?"

"I've no business with you, elf," you answer, conscious of the arrow on the bowstring. "You go your way and I'll go mine, and we can both live another day."

"Hardly!" she cries. "How dare you talk to me like that, and on my land! You know what? Just for that, I think I'll kill you."

That's all the warning you get, but it's enough. You draw your sword as she looses, and cut the arrow from the air, making it ping off the blade of your sword and away from you. She seems surprised, not having counted on your swordsmanship, and quickly nocks another arrow to her bow as you advance. No matter how many she fires at you though, you always block them, and soon are standing with your sword at her throat.

She stares into your face with shock. "Oh look what I've found!" you say. "An elf! Hmm, what shall I do with you?"

"Ha! Vicious human, you're bound to kill me!"

You don't point out the hypocrisy of this statement. "No, I don't think I will," you say instead. "I've a better use for you. I need to go to some nearby ruins, where I've got to fight some kind of monster and steal a Stone from an enchanter. If you help me then I'll let you live."

"Fine! I'll help!"

"Give me your word." You happen to know that an elf would never break his or her word; it was considered worse than **** to break one's word.

The elfin girl growls and grits her teeth, then says, "You have my word! I'll help you get this stupid Stone or whatever it is!" With a smile you sheath your sword and begin to walk away, knowing that she'll follow. "The shame of having to follow a human!" you hear her mutter from behind you. "Still... at least he's attractive."

What happens with the elf girl at the ruins?
