Chapter 3
by Morwen
Who is her target?
A haughty noblewoman
Jennai's eyes grew wide as she watched the elven lady make her way across the courtyard. But it wasn't the woman's slender grace or long silver hair that caught her eye, it was the glint of gold and, yes, diamonds about her fingers.
Casually Jennai moved through the crowd, slipping between the merchants as easily as the breeze. There, just ahead was the elven lady. Jennai stood directly behind her, a foot wedged between the woman's own, her fingers poised over the purse on the woman's right hip, while she leaned around on the left.
"Oh excuse me miss," she said, leaning heavily on the woman's elbow and drawing her attention in that direction, as her fingers deftly opened the pouch on the right. The regal-looking looked surprised at the contact. "I was pushed," Jennai explained with a shy smile.
Finding a fistful of cold hard gold in her fingers, she silently withdrew her hand and stepped away, turning to go. Just as she had turend her head and was walking away, she felt a strong hand on her elbow, and she was spun about.
It was the elven lady who, Jennai now realized, studying the woman's rune necklace, was a powerful sorceress.
Whoops.
